Dot Hill RAIDs Certified With VMware ESX 3.5

The models 5730, 2330, 2730 and 2730T

Dot Hill Systems Corp. announced that its 5730, 2330, 2730 and 2730T RAID arrays have been certified for use with VMware ESX 3.5.

Passing the extensive testing of the VMware Hardware Certification Program assures customers that Dot Hill RAID systems are ready for deployment in VMware environments. By sharing resources across a virtual environment, VMware ESX allows enterprises to dramatically reduce hardware and operating costs.

Virtualization gives companies the ability to further consolidate their IT investments,” said Cooper Cowart, Dot Hill’s vice president of marketing. “By pooling physical storage resources such as Dot Hill storage arrays into storage area networks, and sharing hardware across a large number of ‘virtual machines’ on the same server with VMware ESX 3.5, enterprises can make the absolute most of their IT budgets.”

VMware ESX 3.5 is the foundation for building a dynamic, self-optimizing IT infrastructure. A robust, production-proven virtualization layer that abstracts processor, memory, storage and networking resources into multiple virtual machines, VMware ESX delivers the highest levels of performance, scalability and robustness required for enterprise IT environments.

Dot Hill 2000 Series Storage Arrays
All Dot Hill 2000 Series storage arrays are based on Dot Hill’s R/Evolution Architecture, a highly modular, highly dynamic system that is designed to rapidly evolve and support OEM technology and enable OEMs to quickly achieve sustainable, competitive advantage in the volume storage market. The Dot Hill 2330 features a 12-drive array housed in a 2 rack unit (2U) enclosure providing four 1Gb iSCSI interfaces to internal SAS or SATA-II disk drives. An internal SAS interface allows up to five disk enclosures (including the RAID enclosure) delivering a total of 56 drives. The 2330 adapts to a broad range of applications, and the capability to mix both SATA and SAS technology within a single disk enclosure provides an optimum, tiered storage environment for Information Lifecycle Management. The 2730 and 2730T are the company’s next-generation, flexible storage platform for OEMs. The 2730 features 4Gb Fibre Channel host connectivity, which allows customers to experience the quality, availability and ease-of-use of up to 56 mixed SAS and SATA drives.

Dot Hill 5730 Midrange Arrays

Also based on Dot Hill’s proven R/Evolution Architecture, the Dot Hill midrange 5730 storage array is designed for higher scalability and performance. The 5730 scales to support up to 108 mixed SAS/SATA disk drives, and up to 108 TBs with 1 TB SATA disk drives, yet offers a small footprint (2U) for increased floor-tile density. The 5730 offers enhanced processing power, providing more than 1.6 GB/second read and 1.3 GB/second write throughput and 375,000 IOPS, driving application performance to new levels in a variety of environments, including telecommunications and military. The 5730 is certified to NEBS Level 3 requirements and tested to meet MIL-STD 810F certification requirements for land, sea and air deployment.
