Several Utility Companies Have Chosen CYA SmartRecovery

Areva, American Electric Power, Johannesburg Water, Sempra Energy, and Red Eléctrica de Espana

CYA Technologies announced that AREVA, American Electric Power, Johannesburg Water, Sempra Energy, Red Eléctrica de Espana, and other leading utility companies have chosen CYA SmartRecovery to facilitate compliance and protect their enterprise content management (ECM) system investments from the ramifications of partial information loss.

CYA SmartRecovery is an application-aware, granular recovery solution providing hot, synchronous backups of ECM repository information. It empowers companies to quickly recover one, several, or thousands of pieces of information that have been lost or corrupted due to programmatic, operational, and logical errors, malfeasance, viruses, and other ‘partial information loss’ incidents. Just one administrator can restore the information back to its original state in the repository, with no application downtime.

Utility companies invest significant resources in ECM systems to boost plant efficiency, streamline contract management, improve safety and emergency response, and enhance customer service. In order to realize a return on investment, it’s crucial for them to protect the information stored within their ECM repositories, which includes standard operating procedures (SOPs), plant drawings, contracts, and technical specifications as well as their related properties (metadata) such as audit trails, digital signatures, and annotations.

Because the utility industry is heavily regulated, if any of this information becomes inaccessible due to partial information loss, the consequences can be especially dire. They can include significant fines and even business shut downs resulting from non-compliance with initiatives requiring the preservation and retention of records and their audit trails, such as ASNI N45.2.9-1974: Requirements for Collection, Storage, and Maintenance of Quality Assurance Records for Nuclear Power Plants, Sarbanes-Oxley, and the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure eDiscovery Rules Amendment, among others. Additional ramifications include lost potential revenue, lost productivity, decreases in stock value, and even complete paralysis of day-to-day operations.

"Utility companies are realizing that partial information loss does not discriminate — it can and it will affect every organization’s bottom line over time, regardless of its size or earnings," said Wayne Crandall, president and CEO of CYA Technologies. "It’s imperative that companies in other industries follow the example of AREVA, Sempra, and CYA’s other utility customers by protecting their critical ECM system assets with CYA SmartRecovery before it’s too late."

CYA SmartRecovery also works seamlessly with traditional disaster recovery solutions such as EMC NetWorker, Symantec VERITAS NetBackup, and IBM Tivoli Storage Manager to reduce data loss windows to within 15 minutes in the event of a full system failure or natural disaster.
