BlueArc With Data Domain
To add de-dupe to Titan
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 15, 2008 at 3:17 pmBlueArc Corporation announced that the company’s new Titan storage solutions have been certified for compatibility across the portfolio of Gateway and Appliance Series systems from Data Domain. The combination of Titan’s world-record performance and Data Domain’s powerful deduplication capabilities help joint customers take advantage of cost-effective storage strategies, improve application performance and simplify storage management.
"Our combined platforms deliver a tiered storage environment that reduces storage costs and boosts service levels for nearline file storage, long-term data retention and disaster recovery across enterprise data centers," said Beth White, Vice President of Marketing at Data Domain. "Together, through the combination of intelligent tiering and data deduplication, BlueArc and Data Domain systems create the foundation for a storage infrastructure that can provide our joint customers with tremendous performance, management and cost advantages."
With the exponential growth of unstructured data and vertical markets’ mandates for data retention, data deduplication is a proven technology for maintaining storage performance and managing infrastructure costs. Data Domain systems deliver savings on space and storage capacity required for disk-based archives by up to 80%, and complement new performance enhancements BlueArc announced this week at Storage Networking World, including Dynamic Read Caching.
Compatibility Amplifies Tiered Storage Performance
Customers who deploy Data Domain systems in conjunction with a Titan storage infrastructure can take advantage of new BlueArc functionality to gain both greater control and flexibility in the use of their storage assets.
Based on user-defined rules, BlueArc Intelligent Tiered Storage automatically and seamlessly moves data from BlueArc Titan to Data Domain systems as the nearline and archive tiers, which enables users to optimize data storage costs through deduplication, reduce management overhead and complexity, as well as provide power, space and cooling efficiencies. When access to files is needed, BlueArc Dynamic Read Caching allows quick, transparent movement from the Data Domain system to a high performance cache.
Seamless integration between BlueArc and Data Domain platforms supports essential aspects of cost-effective, high-performance storage, including:
- Flexible data migration policies
- Forward and reverse migration
- Transparent access to Data Domain through primary file system
- Up to 175 terabytes of logical capacity for archived data per Data Domain system
- Savings of up to 80% on the amount of physical capacity required to store nearline and archived data
