The Jackson Laboratory Selects Accellion Virtual Appliance
For secure file transfer to reduce email storage and IT administration overhead
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 8, 2008 at 3:38 pmAccellion, Inc., provider of managed file transfer solutions for enterprise users, announced that the Accellion Secure File Transfer solution has been selected by The Jackson Laboratory, an independent, nonprofit organization with 1400+ employees, focusing on mammalian genetics research to advance human health. The Accellion Secure Virtual Appliance was chosen for its security, compliance, ease of use and minimal IT administration requirements, as well as its ease of deployment and integration with the Laboratory’s virtualized infrastructure.
Prior to Accellion, The Laboratory had no email file size limits and set up temporary SFTP sites as necessary to handle file transfer, with poor results. “At times sending large files via email took our entire email infrastructure down,” said Tony Jackson, web technical producer, the Jackson Laboratory. Another factor was the time and cost to burn and send CDs via delivery services. Besides being inefficient and costly, it was not secure. It was clear they needed a solution that would fit into the Laboratory’s virtualized environment and be easily adopted by end-users while eliminating network slowdowns and storage increases. The file transfer solution also had to meet the required security and controls necessary to meet compliance mandates such as HIPAA, especially for grant applications and confidential information. “Our scientists needed a secure way to exchange large files without spending their time to create and burn CDs. Once I explained about Accellion, they were thrilled.”
“Accellion provides healthcare and research organizations like The Jackson Laboratory with a secure method to transfer large files that gives maximum ease of use, security and compliance with minimal upfront and ongoing IT support required,” said Yorgen Edholm, CEO and president, Accellion Inc. “We are pleased to offer the same high level of functionality through our VMware-certified virtual appliances and hardware appliances to enable improved workplace and scientific collaboration.”
