LiveWire Remote Recorders Has Chosen Avastor HDDs

LiveWire Remote Recorders, a Toronto, Canada-based remote recording and mix facility operated by veteran Engineer and Owner Doug McClement, has chosen Avastor‘s HDX800 triple interface internal Firewire drives to store its live recordings. LiveWire Remote Recorders has captured such historic concerts as Stevie Ray Vaughan’s ‘Live at El Mocambo’ in 1983 as well as U2’s performance with Mary J. Blige during the Hurricane Katrina benefit in 2005.

Choosing the HDX800 drives was an easy decision for LiveWire Remote Recorders because of its external interfaces for Firewire 800/400 as well as USB 2.0, making for good cross platform compatibility.

The LiveWire recording truck is currently equipped with a new 96 input SSL C200 digital console, accompanied by 96 tracks of Protools HD.  There are also dual Tascam X-48s for 96 track backup.

"The feature set and attention to detail in the design of the Avastor HDX drives are what initially caught my eye," states McClement. "The internal 90-240V power supply is impressive, not only because it’s grounded, but because it also uses an IEC power cord. This makes international recording with our Digital Tourpack worry free since the drive auto senses the different voltages. The ultra-quiet cooling fan is also a nice feature, since having good heat dissipation maximizes the drive life. In fact, I won’t use a drive unless it has a fan. The rugged Lockbox packaging not only protects the drives when transporting and shipping masters to clients, but it also helps make my company more professional in the eyes of my customers."

LiveWire Remote Recorders also offers equipment rentals and The Digital Air Pack, a complete 48 track digital audio system housed in 10 flight cases that can be flown anywhere in the world.
