Sybase Mirror Activator Available Through EMC Select
To provide a DR solution for databases
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 6, 2008 at 3:56 pmSybase, Inc., provider of enterprise infrastructure and mobile software, announced Mirror Activator, a disaster recovery solution for mission-critical databases, is now available through the EMC Select program. Through EMC Select, new and existing EMC SRDF (Symmetrix Remote Data Facility) and EMC MirrorView customers can purchase Mirror Activator – the industry’s only solution to combine the benefits of database replication with storage array replication – directly from EMC. The solution is designed for enterprises with mission-critical, transaction-intensive environments, including those in the financial services, healthcare and retail market sectors.
The combined functionality of EMC SRDF/Synchronous, EMC SRDF/Asynchronous or EMC MirrorView/Synchronous with Mirror Activator is a solution for companies with zero tolerance for downtime or lost data. Mirror Activator works in conjunction with EMC SRDF/S and SRDF/A or EMC MirrorView/S by providing hot standby (R2) Oracle or Sybase databases. Mirror Activator reads the R2 devices and replicates data to the standby database. Customers benefit from data availability, mitigated data corruption, reduced bandwidth, and hot standby databases for reporting and decision support. This approach, which differs from traditional disaster recovery systems, significantly reduces the risks associated with planned or unplanned system outages.
Key customer benefits of Mirror Activator include:
- Active secondary database at the disaster recovery site for reporting and decision support activities. The secondary server can also be configured for read and write tasks by utilizing replication between the primary and secondary data centers.
- Mitigated data corruption with live database replication for read/write storage and transactional consistency.
- Minimized business risk with failover in minutes or seconds to a hot standby database located at a disaster recovery site vs. a cold standby system which can take hours.
- Minimized network traffic by only mirroring the log devices of the primary database to the secondary site.
- Zero data loss in a multi-site topology in synchronous storage replication mode.
- Ensured architectural flexibility through support for mission-critical databases, synchronous and asynchronous replication, active/active system configurations, and more.
