eLinia to Launch Cloud Storage as Managed Service
Aimed at SMBs
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 26, 2008 at 3:10 pmBased in N. Ireland, managed services specialist eLINIA has launched a secure ‘in the cloud’ back-up and storage service aimed at small to medium-sized businesses.
The service uses eLINIA’s secure, encrypted, backup service coupled with Amazon S3 technology to provide a fully managed, massively scalable, storage infrastructure. The service allows businesses to back up all their local servers as well as databases and products such as Microsoft Exchange.
James Carnie, technical architect at eLINIA, commented: “We’ve seen a sharp rise in the number of requests we receive for remote backup over the past 6 months. We’ve used our established technology base and linked this securely to ‘in the cloud’ services, providing peace of mind in knowing the data is both secure and remote from customer site.”
The recent spate of data breaches involving lost backup media has prompted security-conscious businesses to consider ways of removing the need for media based storage. eLINIA’s cloud storage service uses a local back-up appliance to cache data before transferring it directly to highly secure datacentres in the UK, and also linked into the Amazon capability for further diversity and scalability.
James Carnie said: “Customers we have spoken to see tape back up as unreliable. There’s a lot of management required every day to ensure critical business data is secure, and even then there are no guarantees that data won’t be stolen or simply lost. Cloud storage eliminates this risk, and the extra level of security that our managed service delivers should help even the most security conscious IT manager sleep easy at night.”
eLINIA provides fully managed hosting for some of the world’s most security conscious organisations, including government organisations and financial sector businesses. All of eLINIA’s engineers and technicians are accredited at the highest security levels, including ISO9001, ISO27001.
The eLINIA cloud storage service is currently undergoing beta-trial with selected customers, with the service earmarked for general availability in early 2009.
