Start-Up Persistent to Create “Global Archive” Over Internet

Because paper, film or data storage devices have a limited life expectancy

A new organization has been formed to provide the first ever permanent storage solution for electronic information archiving. Persistent Corporation will use its patent pending technology to establish the first Global Archive. This archive will be publicly accessible over the Internet. It will allow people to solve problems that previously had no clear solutions.

President and CEO Peter Naleszkiewicz explains the need for the Global Archive this way: "There are many examples of archiving problems faced by all of us. How does a person store a special photograph so that it looks as good as new 20, 75, or even 500 years later? How can anyone store their most important written works such that those writings might survive economic depressions, wars, or natural disasters of the largest magnitude? Can a person making their final arrangements also preserve their best thoughts, important impacts, and personal images for future generations? Facing an impending emergency that risks everything, how can those at risk store important documents and pictures without recurring fees for perhaps many years?"

"Government archives are not generally made available to the public for storing information, and are also restricted in the public’s access to its contents. Electronic storage service companies and disaster recovery services are widely available, but are geared to require scheduled payments and therefore will not survive the customer. Paper, film or physical data storage devices are limited to a life expectancy of a few tens of years. A person discovering a CD-ROM disk in 30 years with the luck that it was still readable would still have a big problem. Chances are high they would have trouble finding software to read the old formats on it," Naleszkiewicz said. "Addressing these issues is why Persistent Corporation has been formed. It will be operated like no other business before it. In a world seeming preoccupied by short term solutions and products of a minimally justified lifespan, we are going to show there is room for a new type of organization."
Persistent Corporation announces its formal incorporation this month by a diverse group from the technology, business and financial sectors. Basic operations have begun with a phase one focus on finalizing the Beta version of the technology platform as soon as possible.

"Before the end of this year, Persistent Corporation will launch public services based on our Persistent Information Repository (PIR) technology. It will be the first commercial Internet-accessible storage solution to be offered with the specific purpose of perpetual maintenance and existence without regular fees. We are creating this public Global Archive so that it can be affordable for most anyone with a computer. Our customers will purchase indefinitely maintained information storage for a single up-front purchase price. It is a new paradigm," said Naleszkiewicz.
