This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 24, 2008 at 3:54 pmInMage Systems, Inc. has secured $15 million in a Series C round led by Intel Capital, Intel’s venture capital organization. Additional prominent investors in the round include Hummer Winblad Venture Partners and Kumar Malavalli.
This investment will be used to expand InMage’s North American sales channels and accelerate worldwide expansion, with an emphasis in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia-Pacific (APAC) regions. Funds will also be directed toward product development and engineering of DR-Scout, InMage’s flagship disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity software. DR-Scout provides businesses, government agencies, universities and other enterprises with data protection and recovery capabilities that sustain operations during natural disasters or everyday system failures.

"Fast growing markets such as EMEA and APAC present an ideal opportunity to increase adoption of DR solutions, and are a critical part of the next phase of our business strategies. We are also investing heavily in engineering resources to ensure that DR-Scout continues to represent innovation in disaster recovery technology."
"Today’s business environment is filled with drivers for data protection products, ranging from unforeseen disasters to backup reliability and regulatory compliance issues," said Bryan Wolf, managing director, Intel Capital Digital Enterprise. "InMage Systems provides comprehensive solutions that address these customer needs."

The start-up InMage, formerly Abhai Systems, has secured $32.3 million in financial funding since it inception in 2001.
The name of Kumar Malavalli appears as an investor in several other storage start-ups, including InterSAN (sold to Finisar in 2005 for $9.5 million), SV Systems (apparently disappearing), Karthika Technologies (acquired by Kasten Chase), Orchesys, and Alpine Technologies.
Remember that he was co-founder and CTO of Brocade.
Malavalli is currently the chairman of InMage, CryptoMill Technologies, and Orchesys.
