Integration of Isilon with NFS Maestro From Open Text
Delivering NFS for Windows to speed delivery of critical business information
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 17, 2008 at 3:58 pmIsilon Systems and Open Text announced the integration of Isilon IQ clustered storage products, featuring the new OneFS 5.0 operating system, with NFS Maestro products from Open Text’s Hummingbird Connectivity Solutions Group, providing Windows environments with the speed, simplicity and security of the Network File System (NFS) protocol for data access. With the combination of Isilon IQ and NFS Maestro, enterprise businesses can remove traditional network barriers to data access, accelerating data delivery to increase workflow efficiency and productivity.
Isilon’s next-generation clustered storage systems with OneFS 5.0, deliver up to 20 Gigabytes per second of performance and 2.3 Petabytes of capacity in a single file system and single volume. The NFS Maestro product suite seamlessly integrates with enterprise Windows environments to deliver the performance and reliability inherent to the NFS protocol, without requiring users to manage multiple protocols or learn new network commands.
"In today’s demanding enterprise environment, fast, reliable access to data is tantamount to advancing workflow productivity and growing revenue," said Eugene Cherny, General Manager, Hummingbird, the Open Text Connectivity Solutions Group. "The combination of Isilon’s new clustered storage systems with our leading NFS Maestro product suite enables Windows-based networks to deliver data to users faster – and more securely – than with traditional storage solutions and network protocols."
NFS enables users to access a network and its components from one, simple, secure log-in, removing the complexity and barriers to data access created by multiple protocols and disparate systems. However, NFS has traditionally been a Unix-oriented protocol, preventing Windows environments from leveraging its performance and security characteristics to accelerate network communication and data delivery. The NFS Maestro line of products seamlessly integrates with Isilon clustered storage, enabling NFS protocol communication for Windows environments to streamline data delivery and access. With NFS Maestro and Isilon IQ, critical data is unified onto one, high-performance, highly scalable, shared pool of storage, delivering superior performance and simplicity versus the standard Windows CIFS protocol.
"As enterprise storage becomes home to more file-based data than block-based data, the requirements for accessing this information are becoming a critical factor in fueling innovation and business productivity," said Ashish Bhargava, Director of Business Development, Isilon Systems. "With the integration of Isilon IQ and NFS Maestro, businesses now have a robust, enterprise-class solution for eliminating traditional data access barriers to maximize the efficiency and productivity of their Windows environments."
