Objectivity/DB and Panasas ActiveStor Parallel Storage System

Interoperable

Panasas, Inc. announced benchmark testing results that verify interoperability between Objectivity/DB from Objectivity, Inc., and the Panasas ActiveStor Parallel Storage System and demonstrate the highest performance available for disk based object-oriented database applications. The integration of these two best-of-class technology solutions will benefit customers who need very high data throughput and unmatched scalability to achieve the fastest possible time to results when running large, complex database applications.

Benchmarking tests demonstrated that queries were completed four times faster than using local storage when deployed on a combination of ActiveStor parallel storage and Objectivity/DB. This performance boost was characterized by a 35 percent enhancement in navigation times and a 400 percent increase in data scanning speeds. Using the combined solution will allow commercial organizations to reduce costs, achieve faster results and maintain optimum performance that scales as capacity requirements grow.

"We have been tracking Panasas through the industry for a long time and saw a shared philosophy between our two companies," said Leon Guzenda, Objectivity’s chief technology officer. "Parallel processing is no longer confined to the scientific or technical markets and is increasingly being adopted in high-performance commercial markets. Any system that has heavy computational needs, high data flow requirements and needs to handle complex database queries is ideally suited for this solution."

The presence of larger-scale clustered computing and the need for parallel storage solutions are increasing within commercial industries such as energy, financial markets, manufacturing, life sciences and entertainment. The combination of Objectivity/DB’s scalable, distributed processing architecture and the Panasas ActiveScale object-oriented storage system provides an ideal foundation for complex, data-intensive applications running on distributed computing systems.

"Many organizations are solving large, real world problems with high performance computing whether the data is for seismic processing and modeling in the energy industry, for simulating automotive or aerospace designs or analyzing the data that drives complex financial markets," said Len Rosenthal, chief marketing officer at Panasas. "Our partnership with Objectivity is in complete alignment with our commitment to providing our customers with the ability to effectively access, manage, and process large amounts of data and information while decreasing the time and ultimately, the cost, it takes to solve these problems."
