CinePostproduction Atlantik Film Installed Tapeless Workflow

Atlantik Film, a Hamburg-based branch of CinePostproduction, a subsidiary of CineMedia Film AG, migrated to a tapeless workflow in Summer 2008 in order to implement faster and more efficient workflows. The core of the new, tapeless workflow is a DVS-SAN, from DVS Digital Video Systems AG, for use as an online and near-line storage system, complemented by a SpycerBox. Existing and new systems are integrated via switches and fast data connections.

Atlantik Film’s goal had been to increase the performance, efficiency and throughput rate of its projects while simultaneously achieving a maximum level of data security. For this purpose, the existing linear workflow was expanded by several workstations, with a special focus on DVS systems, namely DVS-SAN, CLIPSTER, and SpycerBox. As a central storage solution, the powerful DVS-SAN replaces previous distributed, insular storage devices and provides maximum data throughput in the tapeless workflow.

Thanks to the DVS equipment, Atlantik Film now benefits from fast 4-Gbit Fibre Channel, InfiniBand, and 10-Gbit connections. This combination of DVS systems guarantees Atlantik Film a seamless workflow without delays caused by copying tapes.

DVS-SAN, the central storage solution by DVS, was specially designed for finishing uncompressed videos and digital films. In Atlantik Film’s new workflow, the DVS-SAN permits several workstations to establish connections simultaneously and access large volumes of data in real time. The DVS-SAN is designed to be an open system and is compatible with various operating systems such as Linux, Windows, IRIX or MacOS. DVS’s unique content manager Spycer keeps the system optimized at all times.
