Gwinnett With HP Medical Archive Solution

HP announced that Gwinnett Medical Center is using HP offerings to enhance patient care through improved information access, reduced storage costs and by meeting regulatory compliance standards.

Gwinnett Medical Center, a hospital with four acute care facilities serving Gwinnett County, Ga., chose the HP Medical Archive solution to help manage its explosive growth of digitized medical information. The hospital was able to also reduce storage costs and allow faster access to online images – even in the event of a disaster.

The HP Medical Archive solution, a specialized content archiving appliance, provides Gwinnett with long-term archival storage for its more than 450,000 imaging studies generated per year. As a result of using the HP solution, Gwinnett has eliminated service calls from physicians reporting slow access to images.

"HP’s technologies have helped us provide faster time to diagnosis and treatment for our patients," said Rick Allen, assistant vice president, Information Systems, Gwinnett Medical Center. "In addition, we can recoup patient payments faster and we are now more protected, efficient and compliant as a result of HP’s solutions."

In the past five years, Gwinnett’s storage needs have skyrocketed to nearly 300 terabytes. After migrating its entire cardiology and radiology image archives to the HP Medical Archive solution, Gwinnett was able to reduce its resources for managing and storing data by 25 percent. As a result, Gwinnett’s data center operators now spend less time managing and storing DVDs and more time on business-critical operations.

In addition, Gwinnett is now better prepared for disaster recovery – the HP Medical Archive solution stores two copies of image data, one at each of the hospital’s two main data centers.

In addition to HP Medical Archive solution, Gwinnett uses HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Arrays (EVA), HP EVA Dynamic Capacity Management software, HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Arrays, HP ProLiant servers and HP BladeSystem c-Class server blades.

HP also launched an enhanced Medical Archive solution with new features and functionality to help healthcare providers and imaging clinics improve data center efficiency, simplify information management and begin archiving images much more quickly.
