Wasabi iSCSI SAN Appliance Certified on VMware

The appliance starts at $5,995 for a 2TB.

Wasabi Systems announced that its VMX 2000sx iSCSI storage system has received VMware ESX Server 3.5 certification and has been added to the ESX Server Hardware Compatibility List (HCL). Inclusion on the HCL means that VMX 2000sx users can be confident that their storage system has passed compatibility testing with ESX Server 3.5, and should any issues arise that that VMware and Wasabi will work together toward a resolution.

VMware ESX abstracts server processor, memory, storage and networking resources into multiple virtual machines. Each virtual machine represents a complete system, with processors, memory, networking, storage and BIOS. The ESX Server enables organizations to realize production server consolidation and containment by running software applications on fewer servers, and provides advanced business continuity protection at lower cost and delivers high availability for critical applications.

The benefits of ESX Server are further enhanced with the addition of the Wasabi VMX 2000sx, which provides virtual storage capabilities using proven IP-SAN technology. By making all of the storage available to any of the physical servers on a given network, as well as resident virtual machines, storage can be more efficiently utilized. When used as shared storage among physical ESX servers, the Wasabi VMX 2000sx enables the use of VMware’s high availability features such as VMotion, which migrates virtual machines from one physical server to another while transparently maintaining uninterrupted access to the virtual machines.

"Our certification on the VMware ESX Server 3.5 supports our continued commitment to deliver an enterprise class storage appliance to the market," said Frank G. Logan, President and CEO of Wasabi. "Our customers can depend on the power, performance and reliability of our VMX to drive their optimal efficiency."

Wasabi’s VMX appliances are purpose-designed to meet the requirements of the SME market, achieving enterprise class requirements for reliability and yielding the highest overall performance of any iSCSI SAN in the market — and they are much less expensive than competing solutions with comparable performance.

The VMX series easily installs within a standard IP network without requiring any specialized adapters or switches, and allows for consolidation of direct DAS resources into an easily managed centralized virtual storage pool. The appliances are fully compatible with all common business productivity applications and all leading operating systems, including VMware ESX Server, Microsoft Windows, and Linux.
