Agfa had a similar deal with Plasmon.

The two companies will work together to provide state-of-the-art systems for capturing, processing, storing and archiving images in hospitals and other healthcare facilities.

As part of the agreement, Agfa HealthCare has certified Nexsan’s green storage solutions with its IMPAX (5.2 and 6.0) PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems) imaging solution and its IMPAX Data Center, a new PACS vendor-neutral enterprise archiving solution. PACS is a storage and management system for high-resolution images, typically pertaining to the medical field. The certified Nexsan products include the company’s SATA line of high-density storage solutions and Nexsan Assureon, a long-term archiving system.

Agfa HealthCare is the latest addition to Nexsan’s global network of value-added reseller (VAR) and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partners. Nexsan and Agfa HealthCare have collaborated previously through Heartlab, a leading cardiology image and information management solution provider that was acquired by Agfa HealthCare in 2005. Nexsan and Agfa HealthCare have several common customers, including the University of Maryland Medical Center and Hackensack Radiology.

"Our customers have been very satisfied with Nexsan’s storage solutions," said Barry Stone, COO, Agfa HealthCare. "They desire solutions that require reduced energy and physical space, while providing long-term protection of their digital images at a cost-correct price. Nexsan’s storage systems are an ideal fit."

Philip Black, Nexsan’s president and CEO, said the marketing agreement with Agfa HealthCare enables Nexsan to partner with one of the leaders in the healthcare vertical. "Our relationship with Agfa HealthCare provides an opportunity for us to move deeper into the healthcare field," Black remarked. "This industry is a primary target market for our Assureon archive product, which is ideal for healthcare organizations that demand secure, scalable, long-term disk storage at affordable prices."

Nexsan Assureon is a secure, intelligent archive storage solution that combines patent-pending security features with high availability, scalability and performance into a single, fully integrated disk-based storage solution. Assureon was designed from the ground up specifically to address the long-term storage and management of fixed content and compliance information, which are key benefits for healthcare organizations that want to continually improve business practices and must comply with extensive regulations.

There was a similar agreement between Plasmon and Agfa, a big customer of the UK UDO manufacturer, for archiving on UDO optical discs. Optical discs or hard disk drives to manage and archive medical images? Nexsan or Plasmon? Are time changing?
