Alacritech 10GbE Network and Storage Accelerators in Evaluation With OEMs

But no names revealed

Alacritech Inc. announced that its 10GbE network and storage accelerators are currently in the hands of OEMs for evaluation. Many of the industry’s major OEMs have agreed to evaluate Alacritech’s 10GbE technology on the merits of the company’s history and leadership in Dynamic TCP/IP Offload Engines (TOE). Alacritech’s undisputed mastery of Dynamic Offload in previous product generations makes it a “must evaluate” solution for OEM’s embracing TCP Chimney Offload support. Alacritech is on-track to launch the 10GbE cards in the fall of 2008.

The feedback we are receiving from early 10GbE evaluations is extremely positive,” said Patrick Riley, Alacritech’s director of product management. “This fifth-generation Dynamic TCP Offload design lives up to its reputation of delivering line-rate performance with minimal CPU utilization for large block sizes. With design breakthroughs that have made small block size performance highly competitive, our OEMs can be confident about providing an Alacritech 10GbE accelerator to their customers, knowing that the card has a wide field of use across all types of applications and that it comes from the vendor that invented the category.”

As 10GbE adoption in the data center occurs, Dynamic Offload will be an essential component for performance as it offloads processors and memory subsystems in both server and IP storage infrastructure. The primary benefit is increased systems scalability, reduced capital, simplified management, and reduced power footprint in the data center.

Alacritech’s loyal customers have come to expect high performance and exceptional quality and won’t be disappointed. The design team has again delivered, introducing performance breakthroughs not previously available. The tightly designed custom ASIC maximizes overall system performance while maintaining excellent power efficiency. Significantly more of the instruction set has been incorporated into high-performance silicon, with the number of instructions in software being reduced by more than 50 percent from the previous generation. The end result is higher performing servers and IP storage. The more IP storage can scale in supporting additional servers, the more economic it becomes for customers looking to migrate from DAS to storage networking.
