IBM: Fiscal 2Q08 Financial Results
Storage revenue up 12% year to year
By Jean Jacques Maleval | July 21, 2008 at 2:52 pmAs usual, IBM didn’t give a lot of information on it storage activity. Here is what we found.
Revenues from system storage for 2Q08 increased 12% compared to 2Q07 and 6% quarterly. They represent 18% of the IBM Systems and Technology Segment at $5.2 billion, which means approximately $936 million for storage.
Revenues from Tivoli software, infrastructure software that enables clients to centrally manage networks including security and storage capability, increased 9% quarterly.
In a prepared statement concerning its 2Q08 financial results, Big Blue wrote:
"Storage revenue was up 12% year to year and gained share. Total disk was up 20%, as we had double-digit growth in enterprise disk on continued strength of the DS8000, which was up 24%. We also had strong performance in midrange and low-end disk, growing 28%. Tape declined 2% as customers paused in advance of our new high-end product which we announced earlier this week. We believe we held share in tape."
"Tivoli security and storage management products address this need and both grew double digits in the second quarter. This was our 15th consecutive quarter of strong growth in storage management software."
