Sacred Heart Hospital Deploys ArcMail Defender
To support compliance efforts
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on July 9, 2008 at 4:04 pmFor Sacred Heart Hospital, a regional medical facility in Eau Claire, Wis., archiving email is not only a good business practice, it is critical for meeting certain compliance standards outlined by the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP). In an effort to meet these standards, Sacred Heart deployed ArcMail Technology‘s Defender, an email archiving and management solution that runs seamlessly in the background of the hospital’s network infrastructure.
With email being Sacred Heart Hospital’s primary medium for internal and external communications and document exchange for its 1,600 employees, the hospital needed a more secure and efficient solution for storing and recovering email. After evaluating several email archiving solutions, Sacred Heart selected ArcMail Defender for its ability to automatically index and store all incoming, outgoing and internal email messages.
"Among all the archiving solutions we evaluated, ArcMail Defender provided the best functionality and most cost-saving benefits," said Brian Jorgenson, systems administrator for Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. "Defender was easy to implement and configure, and we literally had Defender up and running in under an hour. ArcMail’s technology gives us tremendous peace of mind by providing a strong email archiving solution that is helping us to comply with federal and industry compliance standards."
ArcMail Defender is a self-contained email archiving appliance, and all necessary software and storage hardware are included within the Defender solution. Since installing Defender, Sacred Heart Hospital has been able to increase server capacity by 30 to 40 percent. The hospital has also seen improvements in employee productivity as Defender has reduced document retrieval time from hours to minutes, eliminated the hassles of full mailboxes or the need to manually archiving personal email.
"We realize how important email retrieval and archiving is for healthcare organizations such as Sacred Heart, which needs to maintain records for compliance purposes," said Dean Richardson, vice president of sales for ArcMail Technology. "With Defender in place, administrators, staff and healthcare professionals at Sacred Heart are able to worry less about managing their email and focus more on what they do best, which is care for patients. We appreciate the trust Sacred Heart has placed in our product to secure their email archives and meet the standards defined by HIPAA and FRCP."
