Acxiom Online Backup-X Based on EMC Mozy

Enabling Acxiom clients to store and recover files

Acxiom has announced a new partnership with EMC Corp., a provider of information infrastructure solutions.

Acxiom Online Backup-X is based on EMC’s Mozy remote backup service and enables Acxiom clients and prospects to store and recover files on-demand from their desktop, saving thousands of dollars in expenses and countless hours of recovery time, according to the company.

"Traditionally, businesses have had limited backup options, except for local methods including tape, disk, DVD or external hard drives. Most enterprise-class data protection solutions are too expensive and complex for the average SMB," said Jodi Goglin, Acxiom Center of Excellence Leader for server and storage. "Today, businesses are looking for data protection solutions that are low cost, quick to deploy, secure and offer users the ability to access data quickly in the event of loss. This solution will fulfill all of those needs."

According to the National Archives & Records Administration in Washington, D.C., 93 percent of companies that lost their data center for 10 days or more due to a disaster filed for bankruptcy within one year of the disaster. Of those companies, 50 percent filed for bankruptcy immediately. Additionally, a Price Waterhouse Coopers survey calculated that a single incident of data loss costs businesses an average of $10,000.

"Today’s announcement reinforces Acxiom’s commitment to delivering the most secure, cost-effective computing environments possible," said Acxiom Senior Vice President Marty Sunde. "EMC’s technology and online delivery model is a perfect fit for customers seeking a cost effective approach to backup and recovery of their digital information."

EMC currently provides backup services through the Mozy product offering to more than 750,000 total users, including 20,000 businesses across the world. Mozy provides consumers with online backup services for PC, Mac, and Windows servers. Mozy features include a private key encryption option, incremental backups, Web-based restore options and file versioning, the company said.

"For nearly 40 years, Acxiom has been helping organizations maximize the value of their information," said Vance Checketts, Mozy’s Chief Operating Officer. "Knowing that the safety of their customers’ data is of the utmost importance, we look forward to providing Mozy’s simple, automatic and secure online backup service for Acxiom customers."
