DataCore Wins “Storage Product of the Year” and “Green Project of the Year”

At 2008 UK Storage Awards

DataCore Software announced that on Thursday, June 5, 2008 its SANmelody software received the UK Storage Awards’ Storage Product of the Year at the Tower Hotel, London. Voted for by readers of Storage Magazine, the award recognizes the ability of SANmelody to reduce the complexity normally associated with traditional Storage Area Network (SAN) storage – providing cost savings, increased productivity and optimal utilization. At the same ceremony, DataCore Software also scooped the Green Project of the Year through their SANsymphony installation at Honda Racing F1 Team, with gold accredited partner, NCE, which dramatically improved Honda’s overall storage utilization.

This is the second year running that the Storage Awards have recognized the achievements of DataCore’s solutions, winning SAN Solution of the Year in 2007.

Nick Broadbent, UK Managing Director & EMEA Operations, DataCore Software noted, "We are genuinely thrilled to have picked up the Storage Product of the Year award in such a strong category. This Award testifies that SANmelody continues to meet and exceed customer expectations."

DataCore’s SANmelody software converts standard Intel/AMD servers, blades or virtual machines (VMs) into fully capable SAN storage servers that virtualize disks and serve them over existing networks to application servers. They are simple to operate, take only minutes to install, and let users cost-effectively optimize, manage and protect data storage and disk space.

DataCore set a breakthrough price point with its entry-level SANmelody solution, which takes the enterprise capabilities of thin-provisioning and makes it affordable to businesses of all sizes. DataCore’s entry-level SAN solutions – including thin-provisioning – now start at prices under $1,000 MSRP.

Working with DataCore and NCE, Honda’s top reasons for embracing DataCore’s flagship SANsymphony software included:

  • Better utilization.
  • Overall performance to speed up workloads and backups.
  • The flexibility of the solution, including its inherent ability to use existing disks – thereby protecting the value of the team’s existing Fibre Channel & SCSI investment.
  • Its ability to make storage "simple to drive," thereby saving much time and effort – both in terms of adding new disks and managing changing capacity needs.

"No longer is the IT group at the Honda Racing F1 Team spending time managing inefficient data storage architecture," commented Broadbent. "With DataCore, they were able to make storage ‘Green’ by effectively doing more with less disk storage."
