COPAN Extends Revolution 300
Up to 896TB of raw capacity or 8PB of dedup data into one square meter footprint
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 13, 2008 at 3:29 pmCOPAN Systems announced the availability of a series of enhancements to its Revolution 300 Series Platform providing increased performance and capacity to what was already the industry’s densest and most cost effective storage solution for the long-term storage, protection and retrieval of persistent data.
The Revolution 300 Series combines the energy efficiency of Enterprise MAID (Massive Array of Idle Disks) with the power of data de-duplication to dramatically reduce acquisition and operational cost and complexity. With new drive configuration options introduced today, COPAN Systems provides additional flexibility for large enterprises to architect the most effective way to store and manage its rapidly growing volumes of persistent data – data that is typically written once but accessed infrequently.
The Revolution 300 Series now offers up to 896 TB of raw capacity, or 8 PB of de-duplicated data – in less than a single square meter footprint. In addition, with the new 40-drive VTL cache option COPAN Systems can now support over 1000 concurrent data streams. With this increased capacity and flexibility, the Revolution 300 Series expands the power efficiency and cost saving – as low as 25 cents/GB – long associated with its patented Enterprise MAID (Massive Array of Idle Disks) platform.
"We are the Persistent Data Storage Platform with the only Enterprise MAID OS in the world. MAID does not equal spin down and the Revolution 300 series introduced the market to how true MAID and de-duplication delivers exponential ROI in managing the cost and complexity of persistent data – which represents the majority of data stored by companies today," said Chris Santilli, CTO, COPAN Systems. "As more enterprises understand the value of managing their persistent data on a single purpose built platform, we have continued to evolve to serve the most demanding data center environments. Our new enhancements today further extend COPAN Systems’ lead in density and cost efficiency."
Enhancements to the Revolution 300 Platform
- Power Efficiency: New, larger 1 TB disk drive capacity makes the COPAN Systems’ Platform 47 percent more power efficient on a per gigabyte basis. This delivers up to 896 TB of raw capacity in a single frame or 8 PB of de-duped capacity. COPAN Systems Enterprise MAID platform only powers on disk drives when needed delivering compelling benefits to customers including up to 85 percent reduction in power and cooling costs.
- Availability: A new enterprise-class ‘hot standby’ de-duplication option essentially provides a spare de-duplication engine that seamlessly replaces a failed unit, maintaining client access to critical data. ‘Hot standby’ complements COPAN’s existing VTL Failover option which eliminates unscheduled outages by re-routing backup traffic through alternate hardware in the system. This is increasingly becoming a must have for the large enterprise.
- 300 VTL Cache: The new 40 drive cache landing zone has been specifically designed for the de-duplication environment. Over 1000 concurrent streams can be supported on the 4 shelf version and is particularly well suited for those organizations de-duping on a daily or weekly basis.
- Data Security: New shredding functionality completely destroys any tape data. This feature utilizes U.S. DOD standard 5220.22-M to overwrite the data. This is ideal for customers that are faced with high security needs dictated by federal compliance or corporate governance requirements.
- Tape Caching: Customers can integrate tape and VTL strategies seamlessly. Caching enables automated movement of data from a VTL system to physical tapes when they are required. This function automates the process of creating physical tapes when they are required.
