Aliant Launches Personal Vault

An online backup solution for Atlantic Canadians

Aliant, Atlantic Canada’s leading information and communication technology provider, announced the launch of Personal Vault, a comprehensive online storage solution. As the first ISP in Atlantic Canada to offer a storage and back-up solution, Aliant is providing customers an innovative way to easily access important information such as digital photos, documents, music, and video files from any Internet connection. An introductory free trial of the service will be available to customers until August 1, 2008.

"Our customers have been telling us that they want a safe place other than their computer to store and share files like photos, music and important documents," said George Conistis, Director of Residential Product Management and Planning for Aliant. "With the launch of Personal Vault, Aliant has once again delivered a solution to meet the growing needs of our customers – and in fact, all Atlantic Canadian high-speed Internet users."

Atlantic Canadians are increasingly using technology in their daily lives. The average Internet user has approximately 5 gigabytes (GB) of files, photos and music on their personal computer and storage needs are growing at up to 500 megabytes (Mb) per year. Personal Vault has been designed to allow high-speed Internet users the ability to safely backup, access and share important and often vulnerable data from any Internet-connected computer.

"Unlike alternative backup solutions such as burning files to a CD or DVD, Personal Vault provides the security and peace of mind that important data will always be automatically backed-up and protected from loss, corruption, and theft," added Conistis. "Aliant is giving consumers the tools they need to get more from their digital media, while being assured that their personal information and memories are protected."

The Aliant Personal Vault features:

  • 5 GB of space (enough for 5000 photos, 1000 songs or six full-length movies)
  • Customized file sharing offers the ability to select specific files or photos to share and the friends and family to share them with
  • Once given permission, visitors don’t have to be a Personal Vault user to view selected files
  • Automatic scheduling of content backup for secure storage that can detect changes to your documents so you’ve always saved the latest version
  • Access to Personal Vault from any computer connected to the Internet
  • Security and password protection
  • Service is available in both English and French

Aliant is offering an introductory free trial of Personal Vault to Aliant customers until August 1, 2008. The service, which includes 5GB of storage, will then be available to Aliant customers for an exclusive price of $6 per month. Personal Vault is also available for purchase by customers of any other Internet service providers for $8 per month.

More information on Personal Vault, including the availability of additional storage options, is available online at www.aliant.net.
