FalconStor VTL With Veritas NetBackup OpenStorage API
To speed up and simplify backup and recovery using FC connections
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 11, 2008 at 2:59 pmFalconStor Software, Inc. announced availability of the FalconStor Virtual Tape Library (VTL) OpenStorage Option for integration with the Veritas NetBackup OpenStorage API from Symantec. The FalconStor VTL OpenStorage Option, qualified by Symantec, ensures business continuity by speeding up and simplifying backup and recovery through integration of intelligent disk devices to NetBackup using high-speed Fibre Channel connections.
"The integration between the Veritas NetBackup OpenStorage API and the FalconStor VTL OpenStorage Option enables NetBackup administrators to gain greater visibility into their backup storage infrastructure," said Lauren Whitehouse, analyst with Enterprise Strategy Group. "NetBackup users can benefit from a variety of efficiencies that the FalconStor VTL offers, including Fibre Channel-speed, performance, and data deduplication."
Integration between intelligent disk devices and backup software has been a challenge for IT administrators. The FalconStor OpenStorage Option enables seamless integration between the FalconStor VTL and Veritas NetBackup, and the native connectivity lets NetBackup efficiently handle disk to disk transactions, enabling such disk-based backup features as high speed backup and recovery to intelligent disk devices over Fibre Channel or IP.
The combination of FalconStor VTL and NetBackup simplifies management and increases flexibility in the storage backup and retrieval processes with such disk-based backup features as:
- Migration of backup images from disk devices to tape for long-term archiving, leveraging a NetBackup Media Server
- Optimized duplication (replication) of backup images from local to remote sites for disaster recovery or centralized archiving
- Simplified management for NetBackup users, allowing a single policy layer and catalog to control both backup and recovery.
"The FalconStor VTL OpenStorage Option is one of many options available to our VTL customers," said Bernie Wu, vice president of business development at FalconStor. "In addition to the backup and retrieval advantages intrinsic to native connectivity with NetBackup, customers can leverage FalconStor software’s Fibre Channel connections for higher speed. We also have the advantage of deduplication outside the backup window, and support for large Single Instance Repository clusters."
"FalconStor, a pioneer in disk-based data protection solutions, has qualified its FalconStor VTL OpenStorage Option with NetBackup 6.5," said Matt Kixmoeller, vice president of product management, Symantec Data Protection Group. "The integration of FalconStor software with the Veritas NetBackup OpenStorage API enables NetBackup customers to realize increased value in the FalconStor software’s advanced features resulting in an end-to-end solution with significant cost- and time-saving benefits."
