Nirvanix 200% Faster Than Amazon S3
For large files, including media, according to Webmetrics
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 7, 2008 at 4:05 pmNirvanix announced that performance of its Storage Delivery Network is averaging 200 percent faster downloads than that of Amazon S3 for large files, including media, according to third-party testing service data from Webmetrics and verified by customers.
Recent head-to-head testing performed by 3Tera Inc., the leading innovator of cloud computing technology and utility computing services, provided similar results. 3Tera tested various backend Cloud Storage platforms, including the Nirvanix SDN and Amazon S3, as a backup target of the AppLogic Grid Operating System to measure performance speed crucial for grid computing operations.
“Performance is a critical issue for our customers, so we are always testing online storage systems and we were very impressed by the performance we obtained in using the Nirvanix SDN,” said Bert Armijo, Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Product Management of 3Tera. “Quite simply, it reliably performed more than twice as fast as Amazon S3 and provided users access to their data in multiple locations simultaneously. Such speed and replication enable disaster recovery and scaling for our customers. We are looking forward to further integration with the Nirvanix SDN.”
“We are pleased that the goals of the Storage Delivery Network architecture have proved out as planned,” said Patrick Harr, CEO and one of the founders of Nirvanix. “The design and business intent of the SDN are different than that of any online storage system that exists. The results, which will continue to increase their performance margin over time, are a result of optimizing the Nirvanix Internet File System for large files, designing in an ability to load balance locally and globally across storage nodes and because the SDN can intelligently move the file to the edge, closest to the user.”
“For today’s entrepreneurs and developers, any competitive advantage they can find in bringing their product or service to market can be a make-or-break proposition,” said Jonathan Buckley, Nirvanix Chief Marketing Officer. “Performance is an important facet of the Nirvanix Storage Delivery Network experience and one that we feel provides us with an attractive alternative to Amazon S3 for those deciding on which service to entrust their content applications. Add in our other advantages over Amazon S3 in regards to file integration, reliability and time to market, and we’re confident that we provide the best global storage infrastructure for companies looking to be big.”
About The Storage Delivery Network
Nirvanix has built a global cluster of storage nodes collectively referred to as the Storage Delivery Network (SDN), powered by the Nirvanix Internet Media File System (IMFS). The SDN intelligently stores, delivers and processes storage requests in the best network location, providing the best user experience in the marketplace. With the ability to store multiple file copies in multiple geographic nodes, the SDN enables unparalleled data availability for developers, businesses and enterprises. By using the Nirvanix SDN versus alternatives such as adding network storage systems or using first generation online storage platforms, businesses are guaranteed a shorter time-to-market, reduced costs, and also benefit from better flexibility and control for their operations.
