New Voltaire Messaging Accelerator Software
Improving performance of multicast applications running on IB fabrics
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 5, 2008 at 3:32 pmVoltaire Ltd. announced Voltaire Messaging Accelerator, a new software solution that dramatically improves performance of multicast applications running on InfiniBand fabrics. Voltaire Messaging Accelerator boosts performance of financial market data applications, including Wombat and Reuters RMDS, cutting latency by as much as 50% and increasing application throughput per server, as compared to applications running on standard Ethernet interconnect networks.
Previously, Voltaire delivered discrete elements of this software as part of its InfiniBand solution for financial services customers to help them improve performance and lower latency for market data and transaction-based applications. With today’s release of Voltaire Messaging Accelerator, Voltaire has packaged the software into a solution that lowers latency and increases transactions per second for data acquisition applications for a wide array of uses including video applications, medical imaging systems, radar and other defense systems, as well as for market data applications in the financial services industry. Voltaire Messaging Accelerator can improve performance of any application that makes heavy use of multicast and requires high packets-per-second rates, low data-distribution latency, low CPU utilization or increased application scalability.
“Increasing speed and improving the efficiency of business processes continues to be a key driver for enterprise IT across industries,” said Asaf Somekh, vice president of strategic alliances, Voltaire. “With the success of our application acceleration software for financial services, we decided to develop and enhance it for other types of multicast applications. Voltaire Messaging Accelerator software is a breakthrough way to get even faster performance for applications running on InfiniBand fabrics, giving customers the opportunity for even greater competitive advantage.”
SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time from Novell works with Voltaire Messaging Accelerator to reduce latency bottlenecks on both the operating system level and the data center fabric to improve performance of real-time trading applications in the financial markets.
“Gaining competitive advantage by improving application performance in automated trading requires a continuous drive toward reducing latency throughout the market data environment – including the operating system,” said Moiz Kohari, vice president of Engineering, Novell. “The combination of Voltaire Messaging Accelerator and SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time helps our customers achieve better performance which can dramatically affect the bottom line.”
Voltaire Messaging Accelerator increases maximum packet rates, provides consistently lower messaging latency and gives CPU cycles back to the application without the need to modify application code.
“Achieving minimum latency for messaging applications can have a direct impact on an organization’s success in a highly competitive market,” said Lee Fisher, financial services industry business development manager, HP. “An HP ProLiant or BladeSystem c-Class server, in conjunction with Voltaire Messaging Accelerator, delivers the performance that financial services organizations need to dependably manage the highest levels of trading operations without information delays.”
Voltaire Messaging Accelerator for Linux is available today from Voltaire’s OEM partners and resellers.
