Plextor Shrinks PC-to-TV Mediaplayer

To pocket-size

Plextor has shrunk its new High Definition mediaplayer in size, but not in performance. The latest PC-to-TV player, branded Plextor MediaX, is capable of playing movies, pictures and music through your TV or hi-fi simply and easily – yet comes in a miniature pocket-size unit for ultra portability.

In the run-up to the summer period, the combined mediaplayer/external HDD device is ideal for storing and backing-up holiday snaps and movie footage.

The diminutive player also looks the part as it comes with funky interchangeable colour skins. At just 17.5mm thin (& 78mm wide), the tiny player is not much bigger than the smallest 2.5” portable HDD enclosures.

The PX-MPM160U (160 GB) & PX-MPM320U (320 GB) Plextor MediaX units are developed from Plextor’s existing ranges – combining their expertise in pocket 2.5” HDDs with 3.5” HDD mediaplayers – and they really meet the need for portable and convenient devices with decent storage. With video upscaling to 720P (HD-Ready), the Plextor MediaX is a high performance drive with the ability to play a wide variety of file types.

Rudy De Meirsman, Sales & Marketing Manager at Plextor, says: “The pocket-sized Plextor MediaX mediaplayers are our smallest players to date, plus this is the first time we have used this type of colour scheme. They are ideal for transferring pictures or  movies to your family TV, as well as using as a regular external hard disk.”

Plextor, well known for manufacturing high quality/high reliability optical drives and slimline hard disks, is extending its product range in the growing area of media transfer. Comprising a spacious 160GB/320GB hard disk, the Plextor MediaX comes with wide compatibility with all popular file types for every occasion – including DVD folder, DivX, Xvid, MPEG-1/2/4, MP3 and JPEG.
Many consumers are downloading and storing huge quantities of pictures, music and video on their PCs – and transferring them across to their TV set for comfortable viewing in the living area.  Yet, the Plextor MediaX is designed for more than just playing content on the TV (whether LCD, plasma or older CRT TVs). This is still a normal external HDD to store and back-up all your media (movies, data, pictures) and it also means you don’t need a DVD device and multiple blank discs to transfer files.

Users can be up and running in four simple steps:

  1. plug Plextor media player into computer USB slot (plug and play)
  2. drag and drop pictures, music & movies
  3. plug into family TV (or Hi-Fi) with Scart or audio/video plugs
  4. sit back and watch in comfort

Key features include:

  • Video upscaling to 720P (HD Ready)
  • Hi-Definition JPEG display
  • Supports private folder
  • Creates playlists on your computer
  • Digital photo viewer with thumbnail preview
  • Supports NTFS and FAT32 file systems
