Conduant Introduces a Ruggedized Data Recorder
Accommodating 3.5-inch HDDs, sealed drives or SSDs
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 13, 2008 at 2:42 pmConduant Corporation, a developer of direct-to-disk, long duration recording and playback systems, announced the introduction of its Big River LTX2-35 data recorder. The new recorder is ruggedized for remote or portable applications and accommodates 3.5 inch hard drives, sealed drives or solid-state drives for greater flexibility.
Features of the Big River LTX2
The Big River LTX2-35 provides more than 500 MB/s (4 Gb/s) recording and playback performance in a space, weight and power efficient package. It can operate as a standalone system with network control or can be directly connected to a host computer via its StarFabric PCI bridge interface.
The 2U (3.5 inch) high chassis accepts 16 3.5 inch disk drives, for up to 16 TB of storage capacity. The user may choose lower-cost, high-performance rotating disk storage or solid-state drives for more environmental tolerance such as shock, vibration, temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure, depending on the application.
"There’s a growing need for data recorder subsystems that can withstand rugged or less than optimal conditions, yet provide high performance consistently and reliably," said Ken Owens, CEO of Conduant. "The Big River LTX2-35 was designed to meet the rigorous demands of our customers in the aerospace, scientific research and defense communities. Conduant has a long history of developing data recorder products with built-in flexibility that serve countless applications."
The Big River LTX2-35 is based on Conduant’s StreamStor Amazon architecture and LTX2 small form factor recorder, which supports a wide variety of external, interchangeable interface mezzanine cards including FPDP, FPDP2, LVDS, Serial FPDP and Camera Link. Command and control functions can be performed through the StarFabric interface or through an Ethernet connection. Connectivity to a host computer using the StarFabric interface provides full PCI performance for data retrieval.
Operating from a DC power source of 24-28 volts standard input, the Big River LTX2-35 can operate independently from a host computer over an Ethernet connection. An embedded Web server can be provided for simple Internet browser-based control if desired. Software applications can also utilize the StreamStor application program interface (API) from a network connected host computer for control of the device from a remote location.
The Big River LTX2-35 system is rack mountable and has symmetric weight distribution for straightforward shock/vibration isolation and mounting. Nearly all internal cables have been eliminated for improved reliability, ease of assembly and mechanical robustness.
Pricing
Base pricing for the Big River LTX2-35 starts at around $34,000 for a 4 TB system. Solid state options are also available.
