16-Bay iSCSI RAID From EUROstor Now With SAS Disks
And also dual controller and VMware certification
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 1, 2008 at 3:24 pmWhile iSCSI Storage Area Networks in the beginning mostly were used to access remote archives and backups, today they more and more take over classical SAN applications like databases, VMware servers etc.
To match these requirements, the family of ES-8200 SAS RAID systems from EUROstor has been expanded with an iSCSI system. The new ES-8200I RAIDs offer 4 iSCSI ports per controller and can work with SAS and SATA disks – also in mixed mode. Over a SAS port they can be expanded, with makes these systems attractive also for big SATA based archives to replace the older ES-6200 iSCSI/SATA systems.
Like all ES-8200 RAIDs these systems can be offered alternatively with one or two ASIC 400 based controllers. The dual controller systems thus offer still higher redundancy. In normal operation the controllers can work in active/active mode, which means that each controller manages its own RAID sets, optimizing performance. In case of a controller error the other one takes over all RAID sets.
Another high availability feature: these systems also offer snapshot functionality. Together with the use of SAS disks this makes then apt for the use in SANs that require high performance and availability.
“SCSI RAID systems are being asked for like never before” says Franz Bochtler, President of EUROstor. “With the new expandable dual controller systems we can offer a solution that is inexpensive but still high available, as all components are made redundant, including the server connection. With their high speed SAS disks they easily mach the performance of Fibre Channel RAIDs, but for a lower price.”
A EUROstor ES-8200I iSCSI RAID, e.g.with 16 x 500 GB SATA-II Enterprise disks costs €5.938,10 incl. VAT (€4.990,- without VAT).
