From Lucid8, a Self-Service Restore Capability for Microsoft Outlook

With integration with Dell EqualLogic Auto-Snapshot Manager for Exchange

Lucid8 LLC, provider of software for increased reliability, improved efficiency, and eDiscovery and recoverability for Microsoft Exchange Server, announced two new capabilities available within their DigiScope 2.0 eDiscovery and Recovery solution. Lucid8’s new Outlook snap-in is now the first product to allow self-service restore for end users of permanently deleted items from Exchange when stored on Dell EqualLogic’s storage platform. DigiScope’s tight integration with Dell EqualLogic’s Auto-Snapshot Manager for Exchange further simplifies mailbox and item level restoration and adds eDiscovery capabilities. Both features are a result of close cooperation with DELL EqualLogic and both have been tested against Dell EqualLogic PS5000 Series iSCSI arrays.

Lucid8’s new Outlook snap-in enables end users to restore permanently deleted items directly from Dell EqualLogic backup snapshots, eliminating the need for IT involvement in simple item recovery. Moreover, the new integration of DigiScope with Dell EqualLogic’s Auto-Snapshot Manager allows IT administrators to recover entire mailboxes, folders, and individual messages directly from iSCSI storage platform snap copies to the live production server. IT administrators, HR personnel, and Legal professionals will also now benefit from the eDiscovery capabilities available within DigiScope.

Recovering corrupted mailboxes and individual messages is a common, time-consuming, and expensive service IT administrators provide for end users. Legal changes in 2006 such as the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure regarding email and eDiscovery added additional compliance requirements for recovering and producing historical emails in legal discovery cases. Both issues have one thing in common: end users and administrators need to access data quickly and easily, which has historically been difficult or impossible, especially with backups kept on tape. Today’s announced integration between Lucid8’s recovery and eDiscovery products for Microsoft Exchange Server and Dell EqualLogic’s storage platform is the latest enhancement in search and recovery software and increases the efficiency of disk storage to quickly access and recover data from Exchange backups.

Permanently deleted emails are often still available on Exchange backups, but are time-consuming for administrators – and impossible for end users – to recover,” said Christian Stark, VP of Marketing and Business Development at Lucid8. “Companies that deploy Lucid8’s DigiScope 2.0 based solution and Dell EqualLogic’s storage platform now can give end users the ability to find and restore deleted emails right from within Outlook in a completely seamless and self-service mode.”

The DigiScope 2.0 integration with DELL EqualLogic’s Auto-Snapshot Manager for Microsoft Exchange provides organizations with a disk-based Exchange backup and restore solution that eliminates expensive and time-consuming brick-level backups and at the same time substantially reduces recovery times for accidentally deleted emails or corrupted mailboxes. The integration also enables organizations to efficiently access historic Exchange data stored on iSCSI arrays for eDiscovery purposes thereby drastically reducing legal discovery costs.

The integration delivers:

  • Reduced IT cost through end user self-service restore capabilities.
  • Reduced service time for restore and recovery requests through instantly accessible backups.
  • Reduced legal discovery costs and response times through DigiScope’s data harvesting and export capabilities.

The new storage integration features are expected to ship in the 2nd half of 2008.
