YellowFiber Chooses RELDATA

RELDATA announced YellowFiber is now a customer for RELDATA’s 9240 unified storage solutions. YellowFiber is a hosting company that provides managed high availability clusters for ebusiness and web infrastructures.

“Previously we had a series of disjointed storage islands,” explains Zak Thompson, CEO of YellowFiber. “Storage pools were connected to different machines in the same cluster for load balancing and redundancy, and it became painfully complex to keep these in sync. This complexity was compounded by a lack of scalability in the file system. As the capacity requirements of some clusters grew, we were forced to constantly break out applications onto a new file server.”

Faced with individual customers demanding 10 to 50GB of storage growth per week and an overall demand for as much as 900GB of new capacity each month, it was clear that YellowFiber needed a new and more elegant storage solution.

YellowFiber chose the RELDATA 9240 unified storage gateway, capable of delivering multiple file systems, each of up to eight exabytes in size. All storage behind the gateway is virtualized into a single pool and virtual volumes can be carved out for each file system, mirrored and even resized while systems are live.

“We have one single storage pool and one central storage management device,” explains Thompson. “The time needed for storage administration is a fraction of what is was before, and the simplicity of the system gives us more flexibility to deliver a better service.”
