Alpine Bank Chooses Nexsan

To store two million document pages and replicated 700,000 images per day

Nexsan announced that, since June of 2007, Alpine Bank of Greenwood Springs, Colo., has cut its data storage footprint in half, chopped storage costs by 30 percent, and in the first two months alone, stored more than two million document pages and replicated more than 700,000 images per day using Nexsan’s Assureon product and embedded AutoMAID (Automatic Massive Array of Idle Disks). The benefits from Nexsan’s green storage solutions exceeded Alpine Bank’s original expectations of energy savings.

Alpine Bank, with $2 billion in assets and 36 branches throughout western and southwestern Colorado, serves over 100,000 customers and is opening an average of three new branches per year. A pioneer in ‘green banking,’ including a move toward becoming a paperless institution, Alpine Bank, which received ISO 14001 Certification in 2006, promotes conservation among its members and encourages communities and local businesses to join in its efforts in sustaining the environment. The Green Team at Alpine Bank oversees environmental management systems that help measure energy usage, water consumption and waste production.

With AutoMAID, Alpine selects various levels of desired energy savings based on specific applications and the frequency of users’ demands for the associated data. When a user-selected threshold is met, disk drives are transparently placed into an idle state, vastly reducing power and cooling costs without degradation in performance. All Nexsan products come equipped with AutoMAID functionality at no additional cost. Alpine is expected to save between 20 and 60 percent in power usage and costs through its use of Assureon with AutoMAID.

To meet its financial and environmental data storage needs, Alpine Bank turned to technology partner Jack Henry & Associates, a leading provider of integrated computer systems for financial services organizations. Jack Henry recommended Nexsan Assureon because it easily integrated with Jack Henry’s Synergy Enterprise Content Management (ECM) product that was already installed at Alpine Bank. Jack Henry and Nexsan sell these products as a single, integrated solution.

"It was the smoothest installation I have ever experienced," said Don Litton, Network Engineer at Alpine Bank.

Chris Brown, Alpine Bank’s Vice President of Information Technology, concurred, "We are thrilled with the initial results and plan to further leverage our investment by incorporating additional storage elements such as e-mail archiving. Nexsan and Jack Henry have provided us with an extremely cost-effective, reliable and green approach to long-term disk storage."

"Everyone these days says they provide green storage," said Nexsan’s Senior Vice President of Marketing, Bob Woolery. "The real issue is providing green storage without compromising performance, something our AutoMAID technology has been proven to do in rigorous real-world environments. We’re committed to providing our customers with the best mix of high-performance, green products at the right price. With high-performance green solutions in use in a wide variety of vertical markets, we continue to meet these goals."

Nexsan Assureon is a secure, intelligent archive storage solution that combines advanced encryption with content addressed storage, information life-cycle management (ILM) technology, and other patent-pending security features into a single, fully integrated disk-based storage solution. Assureon was designed from the ground up to address the long-term storage and management of fixed content and compliance information, making it ideal for organizations such as financial institutions that want to continually improve business practices and proactively comply with numerous agency regulations.

Synergy is the modular ECM solution marketed to the more than 1,700 banks supported by Jack Henry Banking and the more than 650 credit unions supported by Jack Henry & Associates Symitar division. Synergy is sold outside the company’s core client-base through its ProfitStars brand.
