New UVault Hosted Vaulting Solution by Unitrends

Unitrends announced UVault, its first vault hosting solution designed exclusively for resellers and managed service providers. With UVault, managed service providers and resellers throughout the United States can easily add electronic vaulting solutions to client offerings, enabling the providers to build recurring revenue streams with minimal initial capital investment.

For managed service firms, off-site vaulting is quickly emerging as a fast-growth segment within business continuity services, given that one of the most critical tasks of any organization’s IT group is protection against loss of data or systems. Local backups are increasingly seen as necessary but not sufficient; full protection also requires that backups be electronically ‘vaulted’ to a secondary, distant location. Furthermore, companies are increasingly choosing to meet their IT needs by turning to managed service providers, allowing management to devote more attention to their core business and letting the necessary IT functions be provided by firms with broad and proven IT expertise. And UVault makes it easy for resellers not currently in the managed services business to begin providing important, profitable services under a recurring revenue model– with a fraction of the typical risk.

Unitrends UVault is a two-tier backup system with local recovery at each client site via a Unitrends Data Protection Unit (DPU) backup appliance, and remote recovery via the Unitrends Data Protection Vault (DPV). By placing a DPV at a co-location facility, resellers are able to provide off-site vaulting services to their clients who either own or lease a DPU for local protection.
