Genstor Collaborates With AMD and Open-E
For a new 'green' storage server appliance
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 21, 2008 at 2:45 pmGenstor Systems, Inc., a customized solutions provider for servers, storage, clusters, OEM appliances and high-performance computing, announced the launch of their new green storage server appliance, the GNS-2450, at Storage Networking World in Orlando, FL.
The appliance, resulting from the collaboration between Genstor, Open-E and AMD, uses Open-E Data Storage Server (DSS) software and an AMD Opteron processor-based hardware platform.
The Storage appliance is built on the proven Open-E family of storage products, with nearly seven years of development, testing and support – yielding superior security, reliability and ease-of-management benefits. The robust hardware platform takes full advantage of high-performance AMD Opteron processors with Direct Connect Architecture. Coupled with Open-E’s plug-and-play storage management capability and easy-to-use GUI, the GNS-2450 is easily configurable, significantly reducing implementation headaches.
The energy-efficient GNS-2450 is designed to enable optimal performance and rapid deployment across a wide range of applications in the SMB and SME markets. Genstor can custom configure these units to meet each customer’s unique and exacting requirements.
"We are proud to partner with Open-E and launch the green GNS-2450 storage appliance based on AMD Opteron HE processor platform," said Raj Chahal, Vice President of Marketing and Technical Sales, Genstor. "With this, Genstor is in a much better position to serve the ever-expanding storage needs of our customers. With AMD’s Longevity Program, which offers long-term processor supply, and Open-E’s DSS storage management software, this appliance will deliver tremendous data throughput that will provide an excellent price performance value to our customers."
In addition to using Open-E’s storage management software on a power-efficient USB Disk-on-Module (DOM), the GNS-2450 has been specially designed as a "green product" with AMD’s energy efficient processor technology. This will make the appliance one of the most energy efficient storage products in the market today.
"We are confident that Genstor’s wide range of customers will be very pleased with the ease of implementation from this highly robust solution," added Krzysztof Franek, president and CEO of Open-E. "Our DSS storage management software, partnered with AMD’s hardware, is a natural fit for the new GNS-2450 storage appliance and should yield significant return on investment for the end user."
"The move toward networked storage is enabling a broad range of unique offerings for small and medium businesses and AMD Direct Connect Architecture uniquely addresses key storage issues of I/O throughput and memory latency with HyperTransport technology," concluded Buddy Broeker, director, Embedded Computing Solutions Division, AMD. "The new GNS-2450 from Genstor featuring software from Open-E additionally addresses the industry-wide issue of power management and should be a strong value for their customers."
