MailMeter File Archiver 2.0 Introduces ‘Smart Stubbing’

Waterford Technologies, provider of intelligent email and data management solutions, today announced the release of MailMeter File Archiver 2.0 with Smart Stubbing technology, a second generation software solution to help organizations manage the exploding data growth on their file servers and SAN storage devices.

Smart Stubbing is a new, ‘clientless’ software technology for organizations to save expensive file server storage space with three file virtualization methods to seamlessly replace entire files with tiny (1K), intelligent links to the files that have been captured, compressed, encrypted, and de-duplicated in the MailMeter File Archiver Windows-based server. Organizations can shrink their use of expensive storage with policy-driven, intelligent archiving that migrates unused and unneeded files to more cost effective storage devices that already exist in the organization. Smart Stubbing does not require installation of any client software on user PCs.

IT professionals can choose from three Smart Stubs to meet their data requirements:

• OnDemand stubs launch application files directly from the archive;
• Dynamic stubs automatically restore files from the archive to their original location when an application or user accesses the file;
• Revision stubs present a user with a choice of the versions of the file that can be restored from the archive.

MailMeter File Archiver 2.0 overcomes the limitations of competitive, file archiving solutions that cannot effectively handle linked Excel spreadsheets. It retrieves all related Excel spreadsheets automatically when a single file is accessed.

MailMeter File Archiver 2.0 is the only solution that provides drill-in reports for IT professionals to analyze their file servers. For example, the Age report displays yearly totals of the number of files and the storage space they consume making it easy to select files for archiving or deletion. The Duplication report displays the count and storage space used by duplicate files across all file servers. A MailMeter File Archiver 2.0 customer used the Age report for the first time and discovered hundreds of former employees’ Windows 95 files, old downloaded zip files, and company memos from 1993 and was able to delete them with the click of a mouse.
