Tehuti Networks and AMCC Demonstrate 10GbE Low Power and Cost Storage Application
With PowerPC 440SPe storage processor and NIC
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 16, 2008 at 10:48 amTehuti Networks Inc., a semiconductor company providing 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) single-chip, low-power network controllers, announced the company collaborated with AMCC, in embedded PowerPC Architecture processing, optical transport, and storage solutions, to demonstrate 10GbE, low cost storage solutions. The companies will demonstrate the solution at the Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley Exhibit.
The demonstration will show the performance of a Linux-based NAS appliance running on the AMCC RAID-accelerated PowerPC 440SPe storage processor using the Tehuti Networks TN7585-D Network Interface Cards (NICs) for high-performance 10GbE connectivity. The server will stream video resident on the RAID5/6-protected NAS appliance over the 10GbE link, and will showcase an unprecedented combination of end-to-end performance and reliability combined with low power and cost.
"We are delighted to see the achievement of such robust performance offered for low power and cost sensitive applications through the combined solution of the AMCC PowerPC 440SPe processor and the Tehuti Networks adapters," said Blaine Kohl, vice president of marketing, Tehuti Networks. "The contribution by Tehuti Networks adapters allows customers to achieve the performance needed by these applications while simultaneously offering space and power savings."
"Demonstrating an end-to-end solution is important for the customers. The high performance achieved with the combined Tehuti Networks adapter and our PowerPC 440SPe storage processor addresses the challenges and requirements of this demanding market," said Sam Fuller, vice president of marketing, AMCC.
The TN7585-D NIC features the Tehuti Networks TN3016 controller, based upon Tehuti Networks’ OptiStrata architecture, as well as a PCI Express 8-lane host bus interface and dual 10GbE ports. The solution offers an optimal combination of features implemented in hardware and firmware to offer high performance with no impact to the operating system, power, real estate and cost budgets, and supports all major operating systems including Microsoft, Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, XEN and VMWARE.
