Fujitsu Debuts Unified Storage Appliance for SMBs

Allowing both NAS file-level and iSCSI block-level data

Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation
introduced the UDS 2000, an easy-to-install unified storage appliance for
small to medium businesses (SMBs), at Storage Networking World in Orlando,
Fla., April 7-10.

Powered by the
enterprise-class Fujitsu ETERNUS storage technology, the UDS 2000
provides a simplified path to the deployment, provisioning, and management
of an economical, turnkey unified storage appliance with high-availability.

Featuring the Windows Unified Data Storage Server 2003 (WUDSS), the UDS
2000 allows both NAS file-level and iSCSI block-level data to be
transferred over Ethernet networks using an interface that will be familiar
to anyone accustomed to managing a Windows environment. UDS 2000 also
consolidates storage under a single Microsoft Management Console (MMC),
simplifying the management of storage resources. In addition to being
perfect for SMBs currently based on Windows, UDS 2000 is ideally suited for
companies that require more storage, but do not have the IT budget or
resources to implement a storage-area-network (SAN) solution. The UDS 2000
delivers as much as 54 TB of storage using the most common NAS file sharing
protocols including SMB/CIFS and NFS, and using the iSCSI block transfer
protocol. UDS 2000’s robust design features dual servers and clustered
failover.

"Our SMB reseller customers rely on products like the UDS 2000 to offer
effective storage solutions that deliver enterprise-class functionality
designed for the small-business environment
," said Tech Data Director,
Product Marketing, Advanced Infrastructure Solutions Division John O’Shea.
"As the U.S. distributor for the ETERNUS storage systems, Tech Data will
work closely with Fujitsu to recruit resellers and provide them with the
support and expertise they need to profitably deploy the UDS 2000 to SMBs
nationwide.
"

"For SMB customers, reliability and scalability of their storage
infrastructure is a challenge to manage as business environments become
increasingly complex and IT budgets continue to shrink
," said Bala
Kasiviswanathan, director, storage solutions marketing division at
Microsoft. "Microsoft is committed to addressing these challenges by
partnering with vendors like Fujitsu to deliver affordable enterprise-class
storage functionality leveraging the Windows framework
."
