ROBOBAK Version 8 for Remote Offices
And includes agentless CDP
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 7, 2008 at 3:27 pmROBOBAK introduced ROBOBAK Version 8, the next generation of remote data protection software. Easily installed and administered, the Version 8 platform redefines the way companies with multiple sites can quickly, efficiently and robustly defend their data at every phase of its lifecycle.
Version 8 (V8) adds a myriad of powerful features, while maintaining ROBOBAK’s reputation for simple operation across numerous locations, helping companies safeguard their most valuable asset. For instance, Version 8 introduces Agentless CDP, continuous data protection that allows administrators to easily schedule repeated backup operations that constantly protect changes made to documents, databases and Exchange mailboxes made since the last backup, without the need to install software agents on each protected machine.
ROBOBAK’s V8 platform engine also introduces additional features such as auto-deployment, which automatically senses computers added to the network and adds them to scheduled data backups, as well as remote bare metal recovery, enabling administrators to quickly restore an image of a crashed computer to another machine, either on-site or to a remote location across campus, or around the world. In addition, the image recovery can be accomplished to a computer that is not identical to the crashed device, or it can be imported to a remote device, such as external USB drives, giving administrators an added option.
“ROBOBAK is a mature, proven product that is a well thought out and implemented solution to the problems of ROBO data protection,” said Eric Burgener, senior analyst at the Taneja Group, and author of a new “Product in Depth” white paper. Burgener noted that “for end users in ROBO environments, ROBOBAK offers immediate benefits. Because ROBOBAK performs backups transparently while end users are working, the business impact of data protection operations drops to almost nothing. Because all administrative operations associated with backup can now be managed remotely, end users are freed up from having to think about backups at all anymore. This not only improves backup coverage, sometimes dramatically for desktop and laptop environments, but can offer also significantly better recovery granularity.”
Version 8 also includes additional features designed to protect data across multiple locations with a minimum of effort, including:
- Extended database support, including hot around-the-clock backups for Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and DB2;
- Simultaneous file replication to multiple sites;
- Mailbox and message-level support for Microsoft Exchange 2007;
- Full 64-/32-bit support (IA and x64), as well as full 32-bit support for both the Executive Client and the ROBOBAK Server;
- Global in-flight data de-duplication;
- ROBOBAK’s exclusive Universal Client Access portal, allowing end users to perform restores from any web browser; and
- Added support for Macintosh computers, allowing Mac users to administer backup and restore functions to multiple networked computers, regardless of platform.
“We are impressed not only with the new features and abilities, but more importantly, by the speed and ease of use that ROBOBAK’s Version 8 platform provides,” said Marc Shaffer, chief executive officer at US DataVault, a managed service provider and value-added distributor based in Nashville. Shaffer added that ROBOBAK’s ability to allow USDV to quickly and easily brand Version 8 for its managed service provider (MSP) resellers “makes reselling it a no-brainer for all vertical marketers who want to push their own brand to their clients.”
Pricing for the ROBOBAK Version 8 Data Protection Platform begins at less than $25,000 per terabyte of protected data, including upgrades and support at no additional charge.
