Kindred Healthcare and Sterling Testing Systems Deploying Sepaton

For VTL into VMware environment

SEPATON, Inc. announced its S2100-ES2 enterprise-class virtual tape
library (VTL) is optimizing backup and recovery for enterprise
virtualization. Using SEPATON’s VTL with VMware, Kindred Healthcare and
Sterling Testing Systems have realized improved resource utilization,
reduced costs, and greater management flexibility.

"SEPATON VTLs
eliminate the challenges that traditional backup technologies bring to
virtualized data centers. Users are experiencing tremendous
performance benefits by integrating our solution into their VMware
environments, and as a result, exceeding their service levels
," said
Asim Zaheer, vice president of marketing, SEPATON, Inc.

Kindred
Healthcare, a Fortune 500 healthcare services company, has benefited
from deploying VMware ESX with SEPATON’s S2100 VTL. "Using traditional
backup methods in our virtual environment, we could not attain the
performance gains and management flexibility our new infrastructure
promised
," said Adam Haysley, senior systems programmer, Kindred
Healthcare. "With SEPATON’s virtual tape library, we can now backup
the virtual machine disk files (.vmdk) from our proxy server directly
to the VTL and achieve restore times that are comparable to primary
storage. We can also use Tivoli Storage Manager backup software without
third party agents to backup to the VTL, making the integration
seamless
."

When Sterling Testing Systems, Inc., a leading private
provider of pre-employment screening services, implemented a VMware ESX
infrastructure, they soon realized that a SEPATON S2100-ES2 VTL was
best able to protect their data and enable optimal use of the powerful
VMware snapshot functionality. "The backup and restore performance of
the SEPATON VTL is so fast that we can backup our snapshots directly to
it, without going to more costly primary storage
," said Andrew
Madejczyk, Vice President, Global Technology Operations, Sterling
Testing Systems, Inc. "It also lets us adjust our snapshot
frequency/retention times for optimal protection and cost savings
."
Sterling retains one snapshot per day for 21 days, saving more than 100
TB of costly near primary storage.
