AMCC Upgrades SAS RAID Controller
Broadening LSI SAS expander support
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on March 11, 2008 at 3:03 pmApplied Micro Circuits Corporation announced a major firmware upgrade for its 3ware 9690SA Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) RAID controller line. The new code drives up to a 40 percent performance increase and broadens third party SAS expander compatibility.
The new 9.5.0.1 firmware compliments 3ware’s award-winning scalable StorSwitch® architecture by optimizing the RAID controller’s data path for enhanced performance. 3ware 9690SA SAS controllers are now compatible with a more comprehensive array of industry-leading storage products, including Supermicro Computer, Inc.’s lines of 12- and 16-drive SAS/SATA storage chassis.
“Firmware 9.5.0.1 will further strengthen AMCC’s channel leadership position,” said Scott Cleland, Director of Marketing for AMCC Storage. “More robust SAS expander and SAS and SATA hard drive support allows us to continue to strengthen our hardware compatibility list which broadens the base of complimentary equipment choices for our customers. Having Supermicro SAS chassis on the 3ware hardware compatibility list and qualifying Seagate Barracuda ES series drives for those chassis means that more people can integrate award-winning 3ware RAID controllers into their specific storage applications. Whether system integrators require SAS, SATA, or blended SAS/SATA connectivity, 3ware provides the right tool for the job.”
3ware 9690SA SAS/SATA RAID controller kits, which include cables and 3ware’s new 9.5.0.1 firmware, are available through AMCC’s worldwide network of distributors, system integrators and VARs.
