LifePics Deploys BlueArc Titan 2000

Online imaging service hosts millions of images for photofinishers and photographers.

BlueArc Corporation announced that LifePics has deployed a dual BlueArc Titan 2200 solution. As the volume of digital photos-and photo printing-soars with the proliferation of digital cameras, LifePics knew that they needed to dramatically boost the performance and cost-effectiveness of its tiered storage infrastructure. A market leader in online imaging solutions for photofinishers and professional photographers, LifePics now relies on BlueArc technology to help ensure its data-intensive operations can scale-while keeping demands on its IT staff to a minimum.

LifePics provides online photo storage and processing services for some of the biggest retail brands and professional photographers. According to market research firm InfoTrends, approximately 19.7 billion photo images will be printed in 2008, and by 2012, approximately half of all printed images will be ordered using the Internet-to-retail printing model. LifePics has already experienced dramatic increases in Internet-to-retail order volume, and the addition of the BlueArc Titan 2200 solution has significantly improved the manageability, efficiency and cost-effectiveness of image storage.

"LifePics stores millions and millions of images free of charge for our customers, and the BlueArc storage solution truly shines as the core component of our unique storage and image architecture," said Ron Parker, director of site operations, LifePics. "BlueArc has made it easy for us to use a mix of storage types cost-effectively, while customers and their end users get the efficient service and image quality they expect."
