Onkyo to Discontinue Production of HD DVD Players
Officially
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 25, 2008 at 3:57 pm
Onkyo Corporation has announced that it will discontinue the
development and production of HD-DVD players with immediate effect.
Onkyo has distributed and sold HD-DVD players in selected markets,
driven by the growth of the large screen display market and high demand
for new home entertainment media.
Onkyo has reached its
decision after a thorough review of Toshiba’s public announcement
“Toshiba Announces Discontinuation of HD-DVD Businesses”, issued on
February 19, 2008. Onkyo will, naturally, continue to provide full
product support and after-sales service for all owners of Onkyo HD-DVD
players.
As far as the future is concerned Onkyo will continue
to provide innovative home theater products delivering high definition
sound and images that are fully compatible with next-generation disc
formats such as Blu-ray.
