Wisconsin ISP Selects Two Pillar Axiom Systems
To manage data and applications in its primary and secondary data centers
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 18, 2008 at 12:55 pmPillar Data Systems announced
that Wisconsin Independent Network, LLC (WIN), has selected the Pillar Axiom storage system
as the platform to efficiently manage data and applications in its
primary and secondary data centers. With its Application-Aware Storage
architecture, the Pillar Axiom system will assist WIN in addressing the
operational needs of its Internet Service Provider (ISP) sister
company, Airstream Communications, while also providing a secondary
data backup service for businesses in the Wisconsin region.
Airstream offers internet services to over 200,000 e-mail accounts
through more than 20 telephone company members, but also delivers
historical trends, network traffic data and other transactional
information from its primary data center to the secondary site, and is
now looking to offer the added assurance of a secure, data backup
service. In addition, WIN was looking for a cost-effective, energy
efficient solution that could help reduce power and cooling costs in
its data centers, while managing multiple and varying types of data and
applications on a single platform.
"We
needed a dependable, high performance platform since we were deploying
it in the active production environment. WIN offers a cutting-edge data
center and network that securely transmits and stores sensitive data,"
said Russell Berg, Director of Product Development for WIN. "The Pillar
Axiom seemed a natural fit due to its application uptime and
performance. We were looking to customize this platform to provide not
only the current services we offer, but also recovery and data backup
services for enterprise and residential customers as well."
WIN has deployed two Pillar Axiom 500s, combined SAN and NAS units, and
is looking to complete its standardization on Pillar by Spring 2008.
The company originally used a NetApp 3050 to store customer
information, but is now standardizing on Pillar in order to initiate
the secure data backup service at both data center sites.
"The WIN data center is truly revolutionary in its architecture and the
services it provides its customers," said Bob Maness, vice president of
marketing, Pillar Data Systems. "With Pillar’s support, WIN can offer
an even more enhanced customer experience, allowing them to receive
secured information and to further grow as a business. We’re thrilled
to be a part of their team."
