Voltaire Renews With IBM Until 2010
To sell its 20Gbs InfiniBand products for IBM BladeCenter
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 15, 2008 at 3:51 pmVoltaire Ltd. has renewed the
company’s OEM contract with IBM through 2010
and introduced two new products into the IBM BladeCenter product
portfolio.
“IBM’s decision to
continue and grow our relationship confirms the valuable role Voltaire’s
products play in their server and bladed solutions portfolios,”
said Ronnie Kenneth, CEO and Chairman, Voltaire. “The
renewal of our contract through 2010 is significant in terms of future
revenue potential for Voltaire.”
IBM now offers a pass through module that interoperates with Voltaire
InfiniBand DDR and a host channel adapter with Voltaire GridStack
software as an interconnect option for IBM BladeCenter. The IBM pass
through module is the only 20 Gigabits/second I/O module currently
available in the IBM BladeCenter portfolio and the only 20
Gigabits/second blade I/O module in the industry that leverages Voltaire’s
unique InfiniBand pass through design.
The Voltaire products provide high bandwidth, low latency connectivity
for IBM blade servers, creating a solution that is ideal for scaling out
and virtualizing data center infrastructure.
“IBM BladeCenter using Voltaire InfiniBand
brings excellent performance for enterprise environments, particularly
those using virtualization technologies that require high speed I/O and
are looking to improve application performance,”
said Alex Yost, vice president, IBM BladeCenter. “Our
inclusion of Voltaire InfiniBand in our BladeCenter solution is part of
IBM’s ongoing strategy to strengthen the
BladeCenter platform with a diverse set of adapter, switch and
connection technologies that meet a broad set of customer requirements.”
IBM also offers Voltaire Grid Director
switches, routers and software as part of the Cluster1350 solution
portfolio.
InfiniBand and Blades for Financial Services
Financial services firms have been quick to deploy IBM BladeCenter with
Voltaire InfiniBand as a way to improve performance of applications for
advanced trading and market data, including IBM’s
WebSphere MQ Low Latency Messaging software. The combined solution
enables firms to deploy a trading infrastructure that is optimized for
high message throughput, low latency and efficiency. In a recent IBM
benchmark, IBM’s WebSphere MQ Low Latency
Messaging software was able to deliver 300% more messages per second and
had 50% lower latency running on Voltaire InfiniBand than on Ethernet.
