E-mail archiving software to be integrated with file archiving technology from Atempo
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 13, 2008 at 3:48 pmAtempo, Inc. announced the acquisition of Lighthouse
Global Technologies, Inc., developer of E-Trail Digital Archive, a
feature-rich, open architecture e-mail archiving solution.
The
acquisition will enable Atempo to quickly integrate the e-mail
archiving software with Atempo’s file archiving technology to
deliver a comprehensive digital archiving solution.
“Our acquisition
of Lighthouse is another important step in Atempo’s commitment to meet
the growing needs of medium and large companies for data protection and
digital archiving,” said Neal Ater, CEO of Atempo. “Lighthouse has been
a technology leader in addressing critical regulatory and business
process e-mail archiving requirements. Its open architecture enables us
to move quickly to integrate these capabilities into a fully-featured
file and e-mail archiving product.”
Atempo’s file archiving
software, Atempo Archive Server, was introduced in 2007 to reduce the
cost and complexity of long-term protection of critical data assets.
With regulatory compliance and e-Discovery requirements driving the
need for e-mail retention, the integration between file and e-mail
archiving has become critical.
“Atempo’s acquisition of
Lighthouse Global Technologies is good news for customers,” said Laura
DuBois, Program Director at research firm IDC. “Companies are
increasingly looking to address their file and e-mail archiving
requirements through an integrated solution that cost-effectively
improves data retention and retrieval. Atempo clearly recognizes this
important market need.”
E-Trail Digital Archive is a feature-rich
retention, retrieval and compliance management system that archives
e-mail and other electronic communications using real-time capture,
batch capture, and by backfilling the archive from backup media in any
format. E-Trail Digital Archive is built on top of an open, modular
architecture and portable modern technology base, which supports
Atempo’s technology sharing and integration objectives with Atempo
Archive Server and other products. The software supports Windows,
Linux, Unix, and Mac OS X operating systems, as well as MS Exchange and
Lotus e-mail servers.
Comments
Atempo, one of the rare French storage software publishers with Synerway and Arkeia, just announced the acquisition of Lighthouse Global Technologies, an email archiving specialist. The vendor will expand his Archive Server product up to now limited to file archiving. Basically Lighthouse's product E-Trail Digital Archive will be integrated to AAS to deliver a comprehensive solution. E-Trail supports Windows, Linux, Unix and Mac OS X as well as Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus mail systems.
Again the market consolidates in this field, after acquisitions like EMC/Legato (OTG) in 2003, Symantec/Veritas (KVS) in 2005, or even smaller ones like CA/iLumin Software Services, more recently Autonomy/Zantaz or even Google/Postini. Data protection vendors tried to evolve with more mature and comprehensive solutions. For sure, 2008 will again be the witness of new and surprising mergers and acquisitions.
Note that Atempo acquired CDP start-up Storactive in 2006, once more to add a new functionality to its software suite.
