MusiquePlus Counts on Front Porch Digital

For transition to tapeless workflow, storage management

MusiquePlus, Canada’s hip
French-language music station, has installed DIVArchive from Front Porch
Digital to support automated workflow of digitized video content across a
complex web of ingest, storage, and delivery platforms. At MusiquePlus,
DIVArchive is the key to a complete transformation from tape-based to
tapeless workflow that will dramatically improve efficiency and broadcast
consistency at the station, as well as enabling it to more readily take
advantage of new delivery options.

Founded in 1986, MusiquePlus broadcasts and produces a variety of
programming including its own series, reality shows, and music videos. Owned
by Astral Media, the station caters to the youth market in contrast to its sister station, MusiMax, which is focused on an older demographic.

Like us, many broadcasters in Canada have chosen to use Front Porch
Digital
,” said Mario Cusson, vice president of technologies at
MusiquePlus.“Our decision was based on the merits of the product and
the way it fit into our unique workflow. We required a flexible system,
one we could customize to our needs that would also work seamlessly
with multiple other systems. With its open API, DIVArchive has been
just such a solution
.”

Systems integrator Applied Electronics collaborated with MusiquePlus to
devise an innovative workflow in which DIVArchive is directed by
ProConsultant’s LOUISE integrated traffic scheduler. Working in the
background, DIVArchive identifies content by its metadata and handles it
according to customized rules developed by MusiquePlus — making copies for
archives or for browsing, and/or transcoding the content for streaming to
the Web, to mobile phones, or even via FTP to the Montreal airport’s TV
monitors that entertain passengers in the gate area with music programming.

At MusiquePlus, Front Porch Digital is responsible for bridging the gap
between the broadcast environment and the IT infrastructure, enabling the
broadcaster to take advantage of cost-effective IT-based archiving on data tape, in this case a StorageTech SL8500 LTO-4 tape library. DIVArchive also
interfaces with Florical Systems automation, Apple Final Cut Pro editing
stations for restoration of content from storage, and Miranda Vertigo XG for
branding of promos.

Repurposing content across multiple distribution channels is essential to
businesses like MusiquePlus
,” said Dave Polyard, Front Porch Digital senior
vice president of sales for the Americas. “DIVArchive was designed to manage content throughout its life cycle in exactly the sort of complex content and
storage environment MusiquePlus represents
.”

MusiquePlus is currently testing its new system and training staff in
advance of full implementation before spring 2008.
