St. John’s Prep School Deployed NetApp StoreVault S500
To create a virtual storage environment
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on January 22, 2008 at 3:53 pmStoreVault, a NetApp division, today announced that St.
John’s Preparatory School deployed the StoreVault S500 all-in-one
storage solution to create a virtual storage environment and maximize
data management efficiency, simplify storage migrations, and increase
the flexibility and scalability of its data storage environment.
St. John’s Preparatory School is a Xaverian Brothers-sponsored
secondary school for young men located in Danvers, Mass., about 20
miles north of Boston. With 12 leased servers managing 1.5TB of
direct-attached storage, St. John’s was experiencing significant
hardware incompatibility and downtime problems when performing storage
migrations. Additionally, the school was struggling to balance storage
utilization and application availability while keeping power and
cooling costs in check. Foreseeing future hardware incompatibility
issues, insufficient management tools, and rising power consumption
costs, St. John’s deployed the StoreVault S500. Additionally, with the
assistance of its reseller, GreenPages, Inc., the school deployed a new
virtual storage environment, utilizing the capabilities of both
StoreVault and VMware to maximize server capacity, enhance
application availability, and increase the efficiency of its storage
environment.
"StoreVault has helped us enhance the educational environment we
provide for our students," said Christopher Butler, the academic
technology director at St. John’s Prep. "We looked at several competing
offerings, but StoreVault was the only solution that properly balanced
high-end capabilities with affordability. I was impressed with how
easily we were able to deploy StoreVault and VMware to create a virtual
data management environment. We now have a reliable, easy-to-manage
storage infrastructure that allows us to focus on the students in the
classroom rather than worry about the hardware in the closet."
"After speaking with St. John’s Prep, we thought the StoreVault
implementation and creation of a virtual storage environment would
create the best data management solution," stated Cris Robinson, senior
solutions architect at GreenPages. "Once they witnessed the simple
installation and setup, as well as the benefits of their new storage
environment, they knew they had made the right decision."
"Inefficient storage migrations can disrupt the operations of any
SMB," said Sajai Krishnan, general manager of StoreVault. "This was the
case with St. John’s Prep. If not properly addressed, their problems
could have increased and eventually affected the educational experience
of their students. StoreVault helped St. John’s improve its data
management situation so all focus can be placed on teaching and
learning."
