Netezza Extends its NPS Appliances to Petabyte Level

To enable high-performance analytics on massive data

Netezza Corporation announced it is extending its high-performance
Netezza Performance Server (NPS) family of appliances to scale to
the petabyte level, to meet the demand for fast, comprehensive analyses on exponentially
growing data volumes. This demand is especially strong in high data growth industries
including telecommunications, financial services, online businesses and the
federal government.

Through advances in hardware technology, and leveraging the increased performance
benefits of its recently announced Compress
Engine and the innovations in its FAST
Engines framework, Netezza is extending its NPS family to include
configurations of systems that scale into the hundreds of terabytes, up to the
petabyte level. These new systems will also provide support for expanded, multi-terabyte
per hour data load speeds to further reduce data loading and backup windows.

Netezza’s patented streaming architecture delivers the same high-performance
and low total cost of ownership advantages across a broad range of data sizes,
from a few hundred gigabytes into the many hundreds of terabytes. According
to Jit Saxena, chairman and CEO, Netezza, “When we launched the Netezza
appliance in 2002, our largest system capacity was six terabytes. In 2004, we
increased the maximum capacity of our systems to 27 terabytes, and in 2005 we
increased the top end again, to 100 terabytes. Now with this expansion, we have
a very broad range of high-performance system options to mirror the needs of
our customers as they manage and analyze their growing data volumes.”

Businesses are rapidly coming to understand the importance of analyzing
all their data for competitive advantage, causing data volumes to grow very
large, very quickly
,” said Richard Winter, president of WinterCorp, an
independent consulting firm specializing in large scale data management. “Netezza’s
product line expansion reflects the increasing data volume and analytic demands
of its growing customer base.

The new NPS configurations will be available starting in mid-2008.

Customers who
have realized the benefits of Netezza appliances include Ahold, Amazon.com,
CNET Networks, Debenhams, Department of Veterans Affairs, Epsilon, Neiman Marcus,
Orange UK, Premier, Inc., Ross Stores, Ryder System, Inc., The Carphone Warehouse
and Virgin Media.
