It's not really surprising as 1.8-inch hard disk drives will have more and more difficulties to compete with flash. The only real big OEM in the world is Apple for its highest-capacity iPod.

It won't be surprising that Seagate will follow Hitachi GST and stop manufacturing these tiny drives.

Only Samsung and Toshiba (for Apple) continue to invest into 1.8-inch units with capacities up to 160GB and 120GB, respectively.

The lastest model from HGST, the Travelstar C3K80, was announced in January 2007 at a maximum of 80GB, rotating at 3,600rpm, and a thickness of 5mm or 8mm depending on the number of platters (one or two).
