Certification of Data Domain by CommVault, Index Engines and Kazeon

Data Domain, Inc. announced certification of its Deduplication Storage systems by CommVault, Index Engines and Kazeon for their respective eDiscovery products. These are the first open data deduplication and indexing solutions that work synergistically to streamline eDiscovery processes. CommVault Search, one of five modules in the CommVault SimpanaTM software suite, Index Engines’ eDiscovery Edition and Kazeon’s Information Server product line are now certified for use with Data Domain’s deduplication storage platform.

In the past when companies have been faced with retrieving information for litigation or compliance purposes, the retrieval process was largely tape-based.  While indexing tools help streamline this procedure, the process still faces the speed limitations of searching tape and the process limitations associated with identifying and retrieving tapes from remote storage locations to restore. By indexing data backed up or archived on Data Domain’s deduplication storage systems, users can now search disk-based archives faster and more reliably, using best-in-class eDiscovery products, while significantly lowering disk storage costs due to Data Domain’s cost efficient storage model.
Data Domain is expanding the application opportunities for its nearline storage capabilities,” said Brian Biles, Vice President of Product Management, Data Domain. “Certification of our Deduplication Storage systems by industry leading eDiscovery solution providers such as CommVault, Index Engines and Kazeon gives customers an additional opportunity to apply Data Domain’s nearline storage capabilities to consolidate and optimise their storage processes while remaining litigation ready.
According to our research, over one third of organisations have dedicated IT resources to support electronic discovery processes,” said Brian Babineau, Senior Analyst with Enterprise Strategy Group.  “This labour investment only solves half the problem as these resources now need integrated solutions to assist with information identification, collection, preservation and review.  Data Domain clearly recognised the opportunity to add more value to its customers by partnering with these three leading eDiscovery providers.   Merging advanced eDiscovery search engines with data deduplication technology enables users to gain control over their electronically stored information.”

"For customers looking to rapidly retrieve data for compliance purposes, the combination of CommVault Search and Data Domain deduplication systems provides simplified e-discovery of electronically stored information across both backup and archive data," said Eric Rice, Senior Director of Strategic Alliances, CommVault.

Our unique ability to directly index backup formats allows us to deliver a comprehensive discovery solution with Data Domain that goes beyond file data and includes content archived in tape images as well”, said Neil Colstad, Vice President of Business Development, Index Engines.  “Producing responsive data that is locked away in tape images is commonly the most expensive and time consuming aspect to any litigation support process.

The Kazeon eDiscovery solution is designed to help corporate legal and IT teams work in harmony, enabling companies to take proactive control of skyrocketing eDiscovery costs and significantly shorten the time it takes to identify, collect, cull and analyse ESI for eDiscovery purposes,” said Michael Marchi, VP and GM at Kazeon, “We are very excited to partner with Data Domain to advance the use of nearline storage and deduplication as a key component of customer eDiscovery readiness.”
