BBS Technologies Acquires D2D Backup Company R1Soft

BBS Technologies, Inc. thas acquired R1Soft, a provider of backup and recovery solutions for Linux and Windows Servers and MySQL
databases. The combination is a natural fit for both companies enabling
BBS to strengthen its position in the Windows systems management market
while positioning it for growth on the Linux
platform, and enabling R1Soft to benefit from BBS Technologies’ strong
distribution channel, support capabilities, and engineering resources.
"The acquisition of R1Soft expands our footprint in the Windows backup
and recovery space as well as extending our reach into the fast growing
Linux Server market,” said Rick Pleczko, President and CEO,  BBS
Technologies.  “As Linux and MySQL play key roles in organizations
worldwide, this transaction is an important step in positioning us to
meet a broader set of customer needs during 2008 and beyond. We welcome
the R1Soft team and products into our company."

Effective immediately, R1Soft will be integrated as a division of BBS
Technologies headed up by David Wartell, founder and CEO of R1Soft, who
will report to Mr. Pleczko.
“We are excited about becoming part of BBS Technologies as it will
enable us to accelerate our product development plans, increase our
penetration into existing markets and provide us with the resources to
enter new product and market spaces,” said David Wartell President and
CEO of R1Soft. “The combination is a true win-win for our customers and
our company.”

Here is a letter from David Wartell, CEO and founder of VP of R1Soft, giving more detail on the acquisition:

What happens to David Wartell and his team?
I am not going anywhere. I am still running the show for R1Soft. My new title is Vice President of R1Soft division. All that really means is that I will continue to run R1Soft. So really, not a lot changes. All existing employees will continue to work under R1Soft. Some of the people you're used to working with: Mario, Brooke, Jason, Mike, Stacey, etc... they are the same people you will continue to work with.

What happens to the products? What happens to my support?
No changes. We will continue to work on our existing product development road map. We are going to invest heavily in our existing products to make them better (especially Windows backups). If you have purchased support then you have support, no changes there.

Are you changing your name?
No, we will continue to be R1Soft . We will continue to run R1 much like its own business. Focused R&D team, focused sales team, focused tech support, marketing etc. For example, in the case of tech support you'll continue to work with the same people you have been. And their sole mission in life is to support R1Soft products. We'll just be adding some new faces to help out and hopefully do an even better job.

Why is this good for me as a customer or someone thinking about becoming a customer?
Doubling our development staff means: faster turnaround and more progress on new versions and improvements you have asked for.

Why Did You merge?
Over the past year R1Soft has experienced significant, maybe even exponential growth. I started R1Soft with only $5K in cash. Not exactly a big bankroll for starting a new fast growth software company. In the last year our team has grown us into a substantial company. They did it without any venture capital, partners, or loans. We have always had positive cash flow. Its pretty simple to me. Just make and sell software.
